After the 20th of August, 1874, all returns re? ceived are Additional Returns, and a penalty of fifty per cent, is added for neglecting to re? turn, "except in cases of sickness, out of the County, <fcc We hope that Tax Payers will boa little more careful in making their" returns for the future. Taxes are an item now, and parties ought to take as much interest in the matter as thoy would in selling a mule or bale of cotton. It is best to make a memorandum of their effects at home; also, of the number of returns made, and in what Township, or, if an Additional Return, (which is the same as another Town? ship) ; and when they pay their taxes, to get as many receipts as they made returns. Or if they get another party to pay for them, to post them up in these matters; and when the receipts are obtained, to see that all the Real and Per? sonal property they own is included. If not, there's a screw loose, and see the Treasurer or Auditor at once and have it arranged. By so doing, all this extra cost, fuss and penalties may be saved. THOMAS J. WEBB, County Auditor. Weed, - 21,709. Wilson, - - - 21,247. American Button Hole, 14,182. The table shows that sales of the Singer ex? ceed those of any other Company, for the pe? riod named, by the number of 113.254 Machines, or nearly double those of any other Company. It may be further staled* that the sales of 1S73, as compared with those of 1872, show a relatively larger increase, beyond the sales of I other makers, than of any other year. For in? stance, in ls72 wo sold 4*5,000 Machines more than any other Company, whereas, in 1S73, the sales were 113,204 Machines in Excess of our Highest Competitor. These figures are all the more remarkable, for the reason that the sales of the principal Companies in 1873 are less thnn their bales in 1872; wh ; ">as, as has been shown, our sales have larg'-iy increased.
