The Cotton Exchange Convention, which has been holding its sessions at Augusta, Ga., has adjourned sine die, with the understanding, however, that it will meet again in New York the 1st of September. Its object was to bring the cotton merchants, brokers and producers together,"in order to promote the cotton inter? est aud.ro facilitate business and exchange in the markets of the world. ~ Casar Cave, one of the recently convicted County Commissioners of Barnwell, has been pardoned by Gov. Moses. He was sent to the Penitentiary for thirteen months, and remain edifhere just one week. Caesar being a man of influence among the colored voters of his sec? tion, the Governor could not resist this oportu nity of making political capital, and secure the active co-operation of his.-cotored friend to? wards securing another nomination. ? Mr. John Smith, whose postoffice is Hick orv Grove, York County, S. C, tells a remark? able story. Before the war he owned one hun? dred and twenty negroes, and up to this day tliose negroes are living and working with him, not one jiaving left after the surrender. They express themselves as satisfied, and say they don't want to live anywhere else. This state of things is creditable to the good sense of the negroes, and shows that Mr. Smith is a kind and good master. 3 ANN OUNCE MENTS. ?S- The friends of JAMES L. It is best to make a memorandum of their effects at home; also, of the number of returns made, and in what Township, or, if an Additional Return, (which is the same as another Town? ship) ; and when they pay their taxes, to got as many receipts as they made returns. Or if they get another party ib pay for them, to post them up in these matters; and when the roceipts are obtained, to see that all the Real and Per? sonal property they own is included. The table shows that sale*; of the Singer ex? ceed those of any other Company, for the pe? riod mined, by the number of 1b>,204 Machines, or neatly double those of any other Company. It may be further stated that the sales of as compared with those of J872, show- n. relatively larger increase, beyond the sales of other makers, than of any other year. For in? stance, in 1S72 we sold 45,000 Machines more than any other Company, whereas, in 1S7LJ, the sales were 113,254 Machines in Excess of our Highest Competitor. These figures are till the more remarkable, for the reason that the sales of tho principal Companies in 1873 are less than their sales in iS72; whereas, as has been shown, our sales have largely increased. The account of sales is from sworn returns made to tho owners of the Sewing Machine Patents. It will hardly bo denied, that the superiority of the Singer Machines is fully demonstrated.
