Williams and Da? vid Jones who went down into the Avondale mine to relieve their companions, and lost their own lives, deserve to be honored for their heroism and philanthropy as long as noble deeds are remem? bered. ? It is said that Gen. Rosecrans wiTl make $5,000,000 ont of his mining speculations in Cal? ifornia. This is better than running for Governor of Ohio, or even being the chief executive of one of the reconstructed States, with pickings and stealings. ? Inglis, Esq., formerly of this State, but now a resident of Baltimore, has declined the Presidency of Oglethorpe College, Gn., recently tendered him. Chancellor Inglis is eminently de? serving the honor intended to be conveyed, but we presume that a lucrative practice is preferable to a salaried professorship. -4P Terrible Accident.?One of the most dread? ful accidents, from a similar cause, on record is that which occurred at the Indiana Slate Fair, on the 2nd instant, by which nineteen persons were killed and m??y otburs wounded, in consequence of the explosion of s.n engine boiler in the midst of a large crowd. The scenes following the ex? plosion were perfectly awful, and where the engine stood there was no perceptible trace except an area of smoked, blackened ground. It seems to be established.ns Jbe cause of the explosion that there was but litfie-writer in-the' boiler and the flues were greatly heated. -^ Ills that IFlcsh Is Heir To.
