LOCAL NEWS IN BRIEF. Grand Concert.?The villagers will be pleased to learn that Master Ferdinand Carbi, the young solo-violinist, will give a concert in Masonic Hall this evening. We hear the performance of this musical prodigy spoken of in the highest terms* and trust that a full house will greet his appear? ance to-night. Important to Bondholders.?An advertise? ment from the County Auditor furnishes important information to such persons as have failed to make returns to the assessors of railroad bonds in their possession. The time for making such returns has been extended to the 1st of May, and all interes? ted should give heed to the notice. It is generally understood that ex-Governor Curtin of Pennsylvania, will be sent Minister to Russia. ? It is positively asserted that Gen. Sickles has declined the mission to Mexico, and also that he has been retired from the army on full pay. ?- Henry Mclvcr, Esq., has been elected Presi? dent of the Cheraw and Darlington Railroad, to supply the vacancy occasioned by the death of the late CoL AUen McFnrlan. ? A flourishing Sabbath School has been orga? nized at Pickens C. H. by the several religions de? nominations uniting, and Capt. James M. McFall, formerly of this place, elected Superintendent. ?_ The President has directed -.he recall of Rev erdy Johnson, Minister to England, and appointed Hon. John Lathrop Motley in his stead. Mr. Mot? ley is a distinguished litterateur, and was formerly minister to Austria. -i- Mr. John Autrcy, a respectable citizen of Edgefield, was killed on the 8th inst. by Andrew Moyer, Sr. The son of the latter was implicated in the affray, and both of them were arrested, but have since been admitted to bail. ? An important case has been docketed in the 8upreme Court of this State, which involves the construction of the probate law, ns to whether the Judge of Probate or the Clerk of the Court is the successor of-the Commissioner in Equity. ? At a public sale of stock and securities in Augusta, Ga., one day last week, in Con? federate Treasury Notes were sold 'o a man who paid $50 for the lot. It really seems as if "Con fedric money was going to be good agin." ? The Supreme Court of the United States, in the case of McArdle w. The United States, de? cides that they have no jurisdiction over the case under Acts of Congress recently passed. It will be recollected that McArdle, editor of nVicksburg paper, was arrested by military authority at Vickr* burg, in 1867, and thrown into prison by the officer commanding for alleged seditious language. _The bill amending the judicial system of the government having been passed by Congress and become a law, the additional Judge of the Supreme Court for which it provides, it is said, will be ta? ken from the South. Among the names mentioned for the position are the notorious Judge Under? wood, of Virginia; the late Attorney General Speed, of Kentucky: Joshua Hill and Joseph E. Brown, of Georgia. STOLEN, from the subscriber oh the night of the 3rd day of February, 18rJ9-,. i Sorrel Stallion COLT, three years old in April, of slender pro? portions, round bodied, with two white hind feet, and narrow blaze in his forehead. Both sides of the Horse are marked with traces, two marks on each side. The above Reward will be paid for the recovery of the Horse, and any information, regarding him will be thankfully received. On the same night the horse was taken, a negro man left the neighborhood, and it is supposed that he committed the theft. Said negro is about five feet five or six inches high, weighs about 160 pounds, said to be twenty-five years old, and is of a dark color. When last seen, he had on an old broadcloth suit, and a common scarf. He calls himself Sam Johnson, and snid he was'raised in Laurens District, but I am informed that his right nnme is Perry Gore, though sometimes he is called Eph. Gore.
