Mr. B. is now in New Yor'%. purchasing a Spring supply, and we presume will make known to our readers upon his return the result of his visit. Southern Manufactures?Every day we dis? cover new evidences of the rapid increase of the manufacturing interests of the South. To-day the Intelligencer contains the card of Mr. P. P. To ale, of Charleston, an intensive manufacturer of Sashes, Blinds, Doors and House Trimmings of every description. Saleday.?The attendance on Monday last was rather larger than wa expected at this seasan of the year. One tract of I%c d, containing^7 ncre?, more or less, in the neighborhood of Pend'eton, ?Eas said by the Clerk .nndur a decree' of Court, and brought" the sum' of $1,575. The Sheriff offered no property, as the cases advertised were either compromised or continued by the parties. As usual, there was some evidence that "sperrits" was afloat and sloshing around generally. Ku KluxedThe mystery has been solved, and there is no Tanger any doubt is to the existence of the Ku Kiux in our midst. The K. K.'s are bold enough, too, for they advertise their whereabouts, and seek to be known and read of all men. The former well-known-stand of England, Bleckley & Go., northwest corner of the public square, is their rendezvous, and the meetings are held in open daylight, from "early morn to dewy eve," and longer if necessary. Magic and Ventriloquism.?Professor St Maub, the famous ventriloquist and magician Las visited our village, and gave one of his choice en? tertainments in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday evening last. He was greeted with a full house, and. the large crowd, was; kept in blissfuleujoyment throughout the evening. His powers of ventrilo? quism are certainly remarkable, while his magic performances and delightful illusions are worthy of the approbation so frequently manifested by those present. St. Maur is a native Virginian, we believe, and a gallant Confederate soldier. We trust that he will make another visit to Anderson ere many months elapse. Death of as Aced Citizen.?We have to re? cord the death of auotltcr old nnd well-known cit? izen of this county, Col. J. W. Norkis, Sr., who departed this life at his residence, six miles South of this place, on Friday last, in the 73rd year of his age. Got. Noams bad amassed a large fortune prior to the war, and was still one of the wealthi? est men of this section. He represented Ander? son District, many years ago, iu both branches of the Legislature, and was defeated for Cungress in 1842 by his competitor, Dr. Butlku, by onty a small majority. He was the candidate of the Democratic party, und was unsuccessful from the fact that another member of the same party drew off several 3iuralfed votes for himself. Since the lime mentioned, Col. Norris has kept aloof from public life, ?nd devoted his energies to the accu? mulation of worldly ^oods, in Which he was en? tirely successful. He was buried at Robert's Church on Sunday lust. _ .". 'i'.i. l ? ? . Delegates to tue State Agricultural Con? vention.?In accordance with ihc call published in our last issue, the Farmer's Association met in the Opttrt House on Monday last. Hon. James L. Or.c,'PresMlen^ of the'Association, explained the object of the meeting, which was to consider the propriety of sending delegates to the proposed State Agricultural Convention to be held in Co? lumbia on the 2Slb inst. On motion of Mr. B. F. OrAytox, it was re resolved that twenty delegates be appointed to represent this Association ia the State Conven? tion. Mine host Wright, of the Nickerson House in Columbia, offers to accommodate delegates to the Agricdumd Con rcntion at half fare, and tenders the use ofhis large hall, free of charge, for the de? liberations of the body. We advise our friends to accept the courteous offer of Mr. Wright during attendance upon the Convention, feeling satisfied that everything will be done by him to contribute to their comfort and make their stay pleasant. ? C. P. Pelham, Esq., announces that the pub? lication of the Southern Guardian will be resumed on or about the 1st of May. This old favorite of the up-couutry will receive a hearty support. ? Gen. Longsircet has been confirmed by the United States Senate as Surveyor of Customs at New Orlcaus. After two hours' discussion, his nomination was confirmed by a vole of 25 to 10. The County Board for the equalization of the value of the real esiale in this county has been in session at this place for several days. This Beanj is composed of the County Commissioners, the County Treasurer and the County Auditor. ? The report of tho Retrenchment Committee in Congress shows some startling irregularities. One of the most suspicious facts is, that' there is no direct proof that orders for the destruction of many millions of dollars worth of bonds were obeyed. ? The Abbeville papers announce the death on the 27th ult., after a leng and painful illness, of Martha Calhoun Burt, wife of Hon. Armistead Burt, in the 58th year of her age. Mrs. Burt was the daughter of Wm. Calhoun, of the Calhoun settlement, ia Abbeville District.. She vis an ac? complished lady, "and the lea*3er of every circle in which she moved, whether in the refined society of Abbeville or among .the distinguished orators and statesman in Washington, when her husband was a member of Congress. ? The Barnwell Journal suggests <he propriety of organizing an Editorial Association in this State. We agree with our cottemporary that such an organization could do much to advance the in? terests of. the fraternity, but.we -respectfully dis? sent from the proposition to establish uniform rates for subscription and advertising, for the rea? son that one paper is worth, more than another, and that advertising regulates itself by the circu? lation and influence of each newspaper.
