Walters, Mr. Edvtin E. Ksese and Miss Mollie E. Cocuran, all of this village. COL. JAMES F. WYATT breathed his last on the 10th inst., at 10 o'clock and 45 minutes a. m. For nine weeks he had been painfully and un? ceasingly afflicted, during which time he had the constant attention of two practical physicians, as Veil as the unweaving vigilance of a devoted family, joined with the unceasing attention of kind neighbors, but all in vain. He is gone. On Wednesday, 11th, his remains were carried Into Pisgah Church, where he held membership, and at 3 o'clock p. m. a funeral sermon was deliv? ered by Eev. T. R. Gary, from the text: "If a man die ihall he live again." Job 14: 14. The Sermon was earnest and appropriate, and listened to by a large congregation of weeping relatives, friends and neighbors, and if sectarian prejudice exists, it itemed to have been left behind on this occasion, for Baptists, Methodists and Presbyteri hns all seemed by their deportment to say?"we have lost a brother." The religious services were concluded by a few words of exhortation and kind cheer to the bereaved family, by Rev. J. M. Pick ens, and prayer by Rev. G. Carpenter ; and then the corpse was consigned to the grave in the bury? ing ground near by, there to rest until the last, loud trump shall' announce that Time shall be no longer. Thus passed away one of Carolina's noblest 'sons, in his 67th year. Ho was born May 1, 1801. Married in early life, and commenced a career of usefulness which terminated only with his life. In politics be was an appreciative voter?in the military he delighted, and early commenced a vol. anteer career, working up through the various grades of promotion until he honored the old 4th Regiment by being its Colonel. Afterwards, when he bad become too aged to endure the hardships of active field duty, he,took the Colonelcy of the 42d Regiment, while younger patriots went forth to battle for the sunny South. This position he held until our militia system became extinct. But the best remains to be told. He was not ?only a patriot, and a gentleman, but a Chris? tian, for "The tree shall be known by its fruit." The hungry went not from his door empty; the nick found him at their bedside; those in grief had his sympathy; they that were at variance'found J in him a peace-maker. But the Judgment Day "will open the book, aud there the fruit will be seen. He pondered well before he RCtcd ; for though strictly moral, he never joined the Christian church until 1860, when he united with the Baptist Church at Pisgab. where he was a zealous and attentive member, and an officer in the church to the time of his decease. - ? : jFuHy conscious of his approaching dissolution, he set his house in order. Not only did he bear his affliction with Christian fortitude, but looked ' forward to the future welfare of his bosom com? panion, and those over whom God had given him charge ; and having finished his course, lie iolded his hands over his heart, and passed away without a struggle. A community feels sensibly the loss; but if our loss be his eternal gain, then let us dry up our tears, and pray that we, too, may die (he death of the Christian. 1 WM. ?* I I2J ME?CBIAH OF AUSTIN WILLIAMS, DEC'S. Only a few brief ironths have passed since the Session and Church of Williamston were called upon to lament the loss of him whose name heads this brief d.otic*. The deceased was born of re? putable parents in the lower end of Greenville District. S. C, on the 21st of February, 1?U4. He died at his residence at Williamston, on the morning of September t>, 1867. Mr. John Williams, the father of the deceased, was a native of South Carolina, and married Anna J Wells, a. native of this State also, where they set- I tied down, and raised a large family of children, of whom (he subject of this notice was the eldest oon. Be remained with his parents until he was ! grown, when he went out West, and was engaged for some time in oeddliug on dry goods through | the States of Georgia and Alabama. He then re- J turned home, and soon after was united in mar? riage with Mary Anderson, of Greenville Distric(, j S. C, and settled near his father's residence, where he resided until the year 1852, engaged in the vo- j cation of farming, when he removed with his fam- j ily to Wiiliauiston, Anderson District, S. C, and there spent the remainder of his days on earth. | Not many years after his marriage, he was appoint? ed Magistrate, :he duties of which office he per? formed with credit and acceptance down to the time of Iiis death. Being a sound reasoner and a good judge of law. his decisions in important and complicated law cases were invariable sustained by the higher courts whenever referred to them. In 18-KJ, he became a member of the Presbyte? rian Ghurch at Fairview, in Greenville District, J and with his family attended church regularly twice a month, riding the distance of tweuty-two I miles, there and back. His doors were always open to ministers of the gospel, of whatever name or order, many of whom have oftened.ah.ired his hospitality, and sheltered under his friendly roof in going to and from their appointments. But a ahort time after he united with the church, he was elected and ordained as a Ruling Elder in the Fairview congregation. In 1852T he removed his membership to Lroadaway Church, in Anderson District, S. C, and was elected and lustalled an Elder iu that congregation. In 1852, the Pres? byterian Church at Witliamston was organized, (in a great measure through his influence, j of which he became oue of the leading members, and he was again elected and set apart to the Eldership, in which capacity he continued to act faithfully and with promptness to the time of his denth. The deceased was a business man, in every sense of the word, of no ordinary talent, and was very useful in his sphere. In bis death, the communi? ty and surrounding country have sustained an.ir? reparable less, which is deeply felt and lamented by all who knew nim. He has left a disconsolate companion and four children, one of them a wid? owed daughter with two promising little buys, to? gether with numerous relatives and friends to mourn his departure; but they mourn not as those tWtiMMt J?op?\ having the blessed assurance "that *U? well wu.h fc'm," and they hope to meet him an that, belter woi'ld above.
