a disabled volunteers asylum, both passed.
The Indian Committee were instructed to inves- j
tigale the recent massacres, und report measures j
to protect the Western frontiers.
Mr. Brown introduced a bill granting land for a
railroad and telegraph line frara Arkansas to the j
Pacific.
The tariff bill was discttssvd Until adjournment.
The President, in response to a call from the,
House, submitted a mass of papers relative to
G. St. Leger GreufeH, convicted hy the military
commission at Cincinnati-, in 18u5, Of conspiracy
for the release of prisoners at Camps Douglas and i
Chase, and who was sentenced to death. The
documents show that that the President approved
the finding, but, influenced by the recommenda?
tions of the coUrt and the successful progress of
the war, commuted the sentence to imprisonment
for life at the Dry Tortugas.
