Upon tbo following articles, there shall be an ?t&vaicrem tax paid, as property according to its assessed value, viz: On all real 'testate, 80 cento on ?reryr$l00, except such lands as may be in ? .possession of the Freedraen's Bureau iu January _ext; on the capital stock of all gas-light compa fiies, 50 cents on every :$100; on articles manu? factured for sale, barter or exchange, between tho ?1st day of January, 1866, and January, 1867, $1 on every $100, to be paid by the manufacturers ; on the gross amount of all spirituous liquors (ex? cept on liquors manufactured in this State from rfruit8 in their season,) sold from January 1 to ?December 31, 18G7, 10 per cent., to be paid quar? terly to the tax collectors of the several Districts ; s>n buggies, carriuges, gold and silver plate, watch? es, jewelry and pianos, on hand January, 1867, ex? cept those held by dealers for sale, $1 on fcv,ery "S100. Upon all gross incomes derived from the foliow " lag sources, there shall be paid a tax <of the per cent, herein specified on the aggregate amount re *ceived, between the 1st day of Januory, 1866, end tli* 1st day of January, 1867-: <Frdm employ? ments, faculties and professions, including the profession of dentistry, (whether in the profession of the law the profits be derived from the costs of ouit, fees, or other sources of professional income,) excepting clergymen, $2 on every $100; on com? missions received by^brokers, vendue masters, fac? tors, commission merchants, dealers in exchange, (foreigner domestic,) or in mortgages, bouds and other negotiable "papers, $5 on every $100; on tho gross amount of premiums received by insurance eomptvrlies incorporated within this State, $2 on ?Tery"$100; on the gross amount of premiums re? ceived by agencies of insurance companies and underwriters incorporated without tho limits of this- State, $3 on every $100; on the groasamount of the receipts of express companies, $10 en eve? ry $100, to be paid to the Treasurer of tbo State; on the gross amount of the receipts of telegraph companios, $5 on every $100; on the gross amount ?f receipts from the sale of pictorial newspapers or magazines, $25 on every $100; on the gross receipts of newspapers published in this State, $2 oa every $100; ea the amount of sales of goods, wares, merchandize, embracing all the articles of trade for sale, barter or exchange, ?(?spirituous li? quors and the products of this State, and the un . manufactured products of any of the United States or Territories thereof, excepted,) which any per? son shall have made from the 1st day Of January, of the present year, to the 1st day of January, A. D. 1867, 60 cents on every $100; for the same ar? ticles, a tax of 60 cents for the ensuing year; on the gross profits of national banks, $10 on every 9100; on the incomes derived from the arts of photographing and daguerreotyping, $1 on every $100; on all incomes amounting to more than $500 per annum, derived from salaries, rents, dividends and money at interest, in excess of $500, $1 on orery $100; on the incomes derived from saw, flour and grist mills, and also from cotton ginned oa toll, $2 on every $100; on the gross incomes ' of all railroads, (not exempted by law,) $1 on cv ' cry $100, but that when a part of a railroad only U within the limits of this State, the return of its income shall bear tho same ratio to its whole in? come that the length of the road in this State bears to its whole length. The following persons are to pay a tax on every $100 of gross income: Hotel-keepers, $2; res? taurants or eating houses, $2 ; livery stables, $2; butchers and hucksters, $2; billiard tables, $5; bowling alleys, $5 ; barrooms, whether connected with a hotel or otherwise, $10; ferries, $1; toll gates, $1. Upon taking out a charter, except for religious, charitable and educational purposes, $20; each renewal of charter, under this Act, $10. The keepers of public race-courses shall pay a tax of $100; each publio hack, stage-coach, dray and baggage-wagon shall be taxed $10, and each omnibus $25. All persons representing publicly, for gain or rtward, any plays, comedy, tragedy, or other em? ployment of the stage, or exhibiting wax-works or other shows, of any kind whatsoever, to be paid into the hands of the Clerks of the Courts respec? tively, (who shall be bound to collect and pay tho same into the public Treasury, excepting in coses where the same is now required by law to be paid to corporations or otherwise, $10 per day; circus exhibitions, $30 per day ; dogs shall be taxed $1, but for each plantation and inhabited lot iu a town or village, there shall be cue dog exempted from ? taxation. A capitation tax of $1 per head on every male between the ages of twenty-one and fifty, resident In the State, on the first , day of February, 1867, except they be incapable of earning a support.' Every employer shall make returns of the names of all persons that are employed by him, and pay the tax of such persons, in which case the lax re? ceipt shall bo a good and valid set-off in any ac? tion for wages by such employco against such em? ployer. All taxes levied on property, as prescribed in this Act, shall be paid to the tax collector for the District or Parish in which said property is loca? ted, except that the tax levied on. railroad, express and telegraph companies be paid into the Treasu? ry of the State.
