New York, June 17.?The imports the past
?week exceed the exports $7,000,000, of which
amount 4,000,000 were of sugar, tea and coffee.
The excitement in the gold room lias been in?
tense for several days past. Four or five of the
heaviest stock speculators have lost fortunes in
that time by throwing their money and influence
against the rise.
A London letter to a banking firm in this city
Bays the specie arrivals are an immense thing for
American credit. The amount sent from America
is everywhere admitted to have saved a general
bankruptcy in England. The letters to otljcr
banking houses in this city are much to the same
effect.
Three deaths from cholera occurred on
Sunday in New York, and there is much alarm, un?
der the apprehension that the disease is spreading.
A man died in Baltimore the same day from cholera.
fiST" The Columbia Carolinian has ceased its

esteemed cotemporary, the Augusta Constitutional?
