At a meeting of the citizens of "Wal? halla, Pickens District, S. C, held on Saturday, August 26th, 1865, to take into consideration, and express their opinion upon the untimely a.nd cruel murder of 2d Lieut. J. F. Fueman, 33d Eogt. TJ. S. C. T.., the following Preamble and Reso? lutions were unanimously passed: V . It is with profound rogret wo assemble upon an Occasion snch as this, to express our heartfelt sorrow at tho fate of one who so recently moved amongst us, ex? hibiting courtesy in life and an honorable spirit; Lieut. J. F. Furman is^no more. Almost a stranger yesterday, he, by his '- ennobling qualities, obtained the respect and eBteem of many among us, and we deplore his loss, not only'as a calamity to ourselves, but a misfortune to our coun? try, of which he was a most promis? ing son. Having braved successfully the dangers -of many hard-fought bat? tles, he falls at last by the hand of the mui derer. ?By the citizens of Walhalla, bo it there? to ' % . .' ? .Resolved, That in. the. assassination of 2d Lieut J. Our Agents'will receive it at any Depot on the Railroad, and take charge of it, and pay. all expenses to the point of shipment, and tbe Govern? ment tax of 2 cents per pound. We would advise the planter to draw for as small an amount as possible, as the discount'-.on drafts are heavy?they will save from one to two per cent, by having the gold remitted to them, and also save the interest. Youths sent to our care will be placed'at schools, carefully, selected, in either Eng? land, France or Germany, and wo wilVmakeno charge for our services. The cost will be from ?200 to $300 per annum, including clothing, board, tuition, books, "washing, &c. There are now a number of youths who will leave Charleston in Oer tobcr, by sailing vessels, for Liverpool, which will afford a good opportunity. Every article ordered will be purchased direct from the manufacturer, when possible, at the low? est price, and as our orders will be-very large, the manufacturers will'put their goods at the whole? sale prices to induce direct trade. This is an op? portunity seldom offered to Merchants, Railroad Superintendents, Mechanics and Planters to order European Goods, which can now be laid down at very low prices. We will furnish prices current each month to those wbo desire them. Samples of goods will be sent to those who wish to make large purchase. At present our vessels will sail from Charleston and Savannah. Our Agents are all Southern men, who under? stand the wants of the "Planters.
