On Friday afternoon, Mrs. Crosland, and Miss Mary Crosland had a very narrow escape of being killed or seri ously injured by being tlno vn from their buggy. It s*emsthat »hey were driving down Richland avenu \ when a pair of mules attached to a wagon ran tway. and struck against their buggy, fl.eir horse took fright, and ran off. ^nd at the corner of the Avenue and Newberry street they were both thrown ur, but very fortunately were not in jured, beyond being shocked andslignt- y bruised. By reason of his having other sources of income, Mr. Sudlow gives us his expert services for the sum of $000 a year. If the city council fails to reelect him they will have to do one of two things; get another expert at $1500 a year, or give the place to some incompetent person resid ent here, at probably a salary of about $750 a year, and conse quent additional expenses, re suiting from incompetence, of $10,000 a year to machinery, ar d an incalculable sum to the gen eral interests of the town. for Honorable It is state d that the owners of land in North Augusta are going to make another effort to get the taxpavers of the western sect- i ms t f Edgefield and Aiken count ies to pull the chestnuts out of the fire for them; to load them selves with higher taxes in order to enhance the value of property in North Augusta. It remains to be seen whe’ther they they will be fooled into any such scheme As far as we cau learn the plan proposed now is to run new boundary lines, which will leave out the Talatha section which is so sensibly opposed to paying more taxes, and to take in a por tion of Barnwell county. The name of the countv will also be changed. As Hammond, and Heyward have proved failures, perhaps they will try Jackson. In these ways an evasion of the law may be accomplished, and another elecbion held in less than the four years required by the law. On Wednesday we received a note from Mr, James U. Jack- son, Vice President and General manager of the Augusta-Aiken Railway, and Electric Company, saying ’’please return pass book, issued by the Augusta and Aik en Railway Co. on account of the Aiken Recorder.” We are informed that the Ed itors of the Journal and Review receved a similar note. This is our reward for our effort to prevent the dismem berment of Aiken county to pro mote the Jacksonian interests in North Augusta.
