Dr. Chester, of Chicago, who
been in Aiken for his health since
fall, died on Thursday last at his
dence here. He was carried to his old

Col H. B. Hendershott.
Col. Henry B. Hendershott died in
Asheville. N. C., on Saturday night at
an advanced age. His body was
brought to Aiken, and on Monday
morning the funeral service was con-
I ducted by Rev. T. \V. Clift in St. Thad-
deus church and the interment was
made in the family lot in the adjoining
cemetery.
Col. Hendershott was a graduate of
West Point and after a short service
was retired before the war for physical
disability. He came fnpm. tlie north
many years ago, to Aiken, wherefce re
sided until some years since he remov
ed to Western North Carolina, where
he resided until his death.

Several days ago upon applicatic n for
bail in behalf of Mr. Robert H. Covar
before Judge Dantzler at Orangeburg
an order to this effect was granted. The
amount of bail was fixed at $3,000. The
bond was procured without trouble.
Mr. Covar is getting along very nicely,
and has been out on the streets on sev
eral occasions (luring the past few days.
Saturday afternoon an application
for bail on behalf of Mr. Jefferson M.
Way, who shot Mr. John D Palmer on
last Monday afternoon, was made be
fore Judge Dantzler. This application
was granted and the amount was fixed
at $3,000. The bond has not yet been
executed, and Mr. Ray is still in jail.—
