Decapitated by a Train.
A. G. Waite, a merchant at West
minster, attempted to cross the track
Sunday night before the southbound
vestibule on the Southern railway. He
was struck by the engine, thrown on
the track and his head crushed off. He
leaves a wife and one child.
Partridges Not Protected.
Partridges are being offered for sale
throughout the state, although there
is a law against selling any bird killed
in this state, and the law is good for
five years. Birds brought to South
Carolina from other states can be of

how any officer of the law can distin
guish between the South Carolina bird
and one from elsewhere.

The engineer and fireman, however,
are not being held, as they are in no
wise regarded as bearing any respon
sibility in the matter. It is reported
the runaway cars were standing on a
side track at the junction, and the
main line switch was open. The three
cars which caused the wreck had been
standing on the siding about an hour
before the cars rolled off. The crew
at the junction claim that they did not
know when the cars started down the
grade toward Sparianhurg on the fatal
trip.
