Timely Warning’.
The great success of the chocolate preparations of
the house of Walter Baker & Co. (established
in 1780) has led to the placing on the market
'many misleading and unscrupulous imitations
of their name, labels, and wrappers. Walter
B^ker & Co. are the oldest and largest manu
facturers of pure and high-grade Cocoas and
Chocolates on this continent. No chemicals are
used in their manufactures.
Consumers should ask for, and be sure that
they get, the genuine Walter Baker & Co.’s goods.

ARRIVAL OF MR. CLIFT.
The Rev. Theodore W. Clift arrived
from New York on Friday morning,
and was met at the station by the
two wardens, and some of the vestry
trymen of S. Thaddeus church. He
was driven to the rectory where he is
staying until the arrival of his family
a few days hence.
On Sunday morning he officiated
iu H. Thaddeus church as Rector, and
delivered an eloquent sermon on the
text from the second Epistle to Tim
othy “Preach the word ; be instant in
season, out of season; reprove, rebuke,
exhort with long suffering.” inculcat-
ng in a tender w-ay the duties, and
mutual obligations* of Rector, and
congregation.
CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
The poor dumb brutes seem to have
staunch friend in Policeman Pat
terson. Yesterday Willis Walker
drove a miserable looking horse into
Aiken, and was driving it around the
streets to the horror of our citizens.
When Air. Patterson came in contact
with the turnout he notified Willis to
take the horse out of Aiken, and keep
it away, and told him that he would
push the law on cruelty to animals if
he again saw that horse working in
that condition. Air. Patterson is
quite correct hr seeing that the law is
enforced along this line. There is no
thing more painful than to see a
poor half skinned hungry horse cart
ing around our streets.
