>p, and the weaned child shall put his
band on the cockatrice den.” Fierce and
bloodthirsty conflicts now rage among all
creatures, rational and irrational, but the
peace of Paradise shall be restored; and this
prophecy shall be realizid on this earth, for,
although we are taught to expect a great
burning and shaking, nevertheless we look
fora new heaven and earth wherein dwelleth
righteousness (Heb. xii., 27. 2b; If Pet. iii.,
13i. Then shall man have the dominion first
given him in Eden, and promised to be re
stored to him ;Geu. i., 28; Dan. vii., 27).
9. “They shall not nurtnor destroy in all
My holy mountain; tor the earth shall be
full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the
waters cover the sea.” Jerusalem shall be
a city of truth aud holiness; Israel, as a
people, shall be all righteous, and Palestine
shall be the happy and honored center of the
whole earth (Zech. viii.,3; Isa. lx., 21; xxvii.,
6). lu those days, as completely as the
water cover the sea, leaving not a crevice
unfilled, so shall the glory of the Lord fill
the whole eartu (Num. xiv., 21: Hab. ii.. 14;
Ps. Ixxii., 18-20,'. Then shall God’s will b«
done on earth as in heaven, and the kingdom
come.
10. “And in that day there shall be a root
of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of
the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek, and
His rest shall be glorious.” The expression
“that day.” wherever found in Scriptura
has its own peculiar significance. See it
seven times in chapter x. to xii. The com
ing King is not only a branch from Jesse,
but also the root of Jesse; the root and off
spring of David (Rev. xxii., 16;, David’s son
and David’s Lord; the Godman, truly God
and truly man. He is the son of Mary, son
of David, son of Abraham, son of God. to sit
on David’s throne, draw all nations unto
Him. and give them the rest of His glory
(Math, i., 1; Luke i., 32-35; Isa. ii.,
1-4). If wd are now redeemed by His
blool, and overcoming by the same, we
Shall reign with Him in His kingdom
(Rev. xii., 11; v., 9, 10; iii., 21). That all
nations shall seetc unto Him, and to Israel
because of Him, is evident from many testi
monies of the Spirit through the prophets.
“Arise, shine, for thy light is come, and the
glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. And
the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and
kings to the brightness of thy rising.” “At
that time they shall call Jerusalem the
throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall
be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord
to Jerusalem” (Isa. ix., 1, 3; Jer. iii., 17). See
also Isa. ii., 1, 3; Mic. iv., 1, 2. As to the
glory of His rest, think of a time when there
shall be no more pain, nor sickness, nor sor
row, nor death; no more curse on all the
earth, the devil forever banished, and all
kings and nations worshiping Jesus, Prince
of Peace, Who shall then be not only King of
Israel but King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Read Rev. xx., xxi., xxii., and select the
verses you want, for the three chapters are
full. It shall be earth’s Sabbath, preceding
the New Earth.—Lesson Helper.
In the midst of a political campaign
upon which depends his last chance
of returning to power Mr. Gladstone
has found time to write a theological
paper for an English review. The
grand old man 4 indomitable. When
Charon finally fakes him across the
last ferry he will, no doubt, jot down
a few notes with a view to an article
upon archaic methods of navigating
the rivet Styx.
A Chicago lake captain proposes
to dam Niagara Falls in order to se
cure deeper water in the lakes. Such
a thing would be certain to meet
with a strennuous opposition on the
part of New York and Canada, but
no one would object were he to damn
the malodorous Chicago River.
Italy is getting ready for war by
Increasing her taxes by millions a
year. She may not have to go out
side her own dominions to have her
desire for conflict gratified.
Since Patti’s famous parrot has
learned to speak Welsh she uses its
tongue for a corkscrew.
