First, the great preponderance in numbers of an inferior race, Who for the most part are tillers of the s-dl, but who are scattered through the va rious avocations in which a white im- rhigrant must first engage before by can expect to climb the ladder of pro<- perity, is a standing advertisement that there is scant room for the intel ligent aspiring European laborer. Second, our own people are so thor oughly saturated with the cotton idea that they regard the <|Uestion of im migration entirely from the contracted and selfish standpoint of the cotton field. The great questions of good citizenship and race homogeneity are ignored, and the question of physTeal labor as adapted to tiie growl h of a town by a negro excursion party.
