Rock Hill Herald, Dec. 2: The city council last night elected fe. It. Treverton as city manager of Rock Hill, sucdfeeding John G. Barnwell. Mr. Treverton, who today assumed his new duties, is to receive a salary of $300 a month, according to the resolution of the council in electing him. Mr. Treverton is known to many in ROck Hill, J having for^ some time past been connected with the Anderson Motor oompattiy. During the war he was connected with the bureau of construction and repair, navy department, Washington, his work involving the handling of contract relations with the contractors for instruments and accessories, also some ehgitieering skill. He was highly recommended by the officials of this bureau...: The following went to Charlotte in their cars late yesterday afternoon to hear McCormick sing: Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Lancaster Newt, Dec. 2: A force ol hands is at work on the stretch ol road wanning from Roddey's Station to Port Lawn, part of which is in York and "part in Chester county. The road tar being widened, straightened and top surfaced and will be put in first class condition Monday was salesday in Lancaster and Crerk of Court Paul Moore disposed of about 8,800 acres aggregating nearly $315,000. This is the largest land sale ever held in Lancaster and was attended by a large crowd from every part of the county. .Government Agent M, L. N. Turner, whom he had sentenced to serve six months on the county chaingang with fcur months suspended when he plead, guilty to violating the prohibition law, Judge Gra> changed Mr. Turner's sentence to 3( days to be served in the county jail and a fine of $500. Should Mr. Turner's condition demand, he is to be placed ir a county hospital at his own expenses where he will receive credit upon his sentence for any time so spent. Judge Gray directed that the automobile which was seized at the time of Mr Turner's arrest be returned to hirr pending the action of United States district attorney upon an offer of compromise which Mr. Turner has made the federal authorities An evenl of much interest to a host of people ir this county, to which brief reference was made in these columns last week tnrvlf nlnco in Washington. D.'C.. N'ov ember 26, when Scott H. Johnson and Miss Lucile Kirby, daughter of Mr and Mrs. W. Coleman Kirby, were united in, marriage. Rev. Amos Clary, a cousin of the bride, officiating Clyde Williams, a negro with a more or less undesirable reputation, was shot Saturday night by Monroe Burke another negro who claimed that Williams was trying to rob him. The bullet, from a .38 calibre revolver, punctured the stomach of the injured negro Williams was taken to the hospital His chances for recovery are believed to be slight. Burke is in the county jail awaiting the result of Williams' injuries Out of 47 churches in the Broad River Baptist Association, 21 reporting to Hon. R. A. Dobson, associational organizer, Sunday night showed a total of $1S9,000, or approximately $2,000 more than the association^ quota, pledged to the Baptist $75,000,000 campaign on the first day. / . t?* Wages in' the dye stuff industry in Japan are from twenty to thirty cents a day.
