Lipscomb, the negro who was arrested Thursday at Elliott's construction camp uf>on the. suspicion of being Joe Turher, wanted at Greenville for the \ killing of two policemen, was yesterday released from custody by Sheriff W. W. Thomas. Certain papers found upon Lipscomb at the time of his arrest caused local officers to believe that he was wanted in Greenville, even though he was not Joe Turner, but the Greenville officials failed to call for him. Lipscomb said he intended to return to Elliott's camp where he had been given a job just before he was arrested Thursday. Chester Reporter, Oct. 16: The R. M- White lands at Evans were sold Tuesday morning by Messrs. Sims & Carter and R. R. Hafner, the purchaser of all three tracts being Mr. J. G. L. According to a party living in that section, the car and occupants stopped at a house last flight to get water for' the radiator, the engine having become excessively hot. When {he cool water was poured in, the water jacket wa3 cracked, it is supposed, for the engine refused to""htart and the occupants of the car departed across the country for parts unknown. The police were notified and the car was brought in this morning The operatives of two more Gastonia cotton mills walkpd out this morning. At 9 o'clock the employes of the Ozark and Avon mills quiptly quit \thcir ^vork and weip: to their homes. N"o disorder was in' evidence. This is the third "mill it^ the town whose operatives have waJkcd out, leaving the mill idle, a similar occurence' haying happened yesterday at the Myrtle mill. Mr. S. M. Robinson, secretary and treasurer. Since tlie^death of Mr. B, F. S*. Austin, some weeks ago, Mr. Charltpp Torrence has been acting superintendent. In conversation with 'The Ga* zottc, an o.Hcial of the Ozark stated, that he understood that there was a question of wage increase in the atfaif-. tude ofithe Ozark operatives, but that they did not give the officials an oppof-c tunity to/Present any offers tl^t, might have been made.
