New York cotton. i
New York, Feb. 10.?Spot cotton
closed quiet, 5 points higher; middling
uplands 15.25; middling gulf 15.50; sales
3,260. Future opened steady and closed
barely steady as follows: Feb. I
> 14.86; March 14.88; April 14.87; May
14.99; June 14.82; July 14.80; Aug. I
14.29; Sept 13.38; Oct 12.90: Nov.
12.78; Dec. 12.73.
New York. Feb. 10.?The cotton
market was less active today and ruled
irregular, with prices responding mod-1
erately to small orders either way. I
fc The close was barely steady at a de-|
w cline of 3 points to an advance of 11
point, some positions being lower inl
response to disappointing cables, while
others were higher on overnight buy-|
ing orders of which there were quite
a number around the ring as a result
of yesterday's bullish developments.
Right after the opening May contracts
sold at 15.07 or 3 points net higher and
even with the high prices of last Monday
but as soon as early demands had
been supplied the market turned easier.
There was a good deal of realizing
by yesterday's buying and as soon as
local professionals saw that long cotton
was coming on the market and ]
that there was no broadening of spec-1
ulatlve demand, they took the short I
side for a turn. Prices sold off to
14.92 for May in consequence with the]
' active months, generally was showing j
a net loss of about 9 to 12 points.
From this level there was a rally on
bullish southern spot advices encouraging
trade reports and predictions
that the week-end figures would be]
very bullish and May contracts sold |
back to the closing figures of last night
~ * J vcloflvolv I
while Morcn seemeu iu ? ~ .??
Arm on buying attributed to big Chi-I
cago Interests, selling a point or so net I
higher. Later, however, there was a I
renewal of realizing and local selling
and closing prices were only a little up
from the lowest on the active months.
Southern spot markets officially reported
early were unchanged to |c
higher. Liverpool cables claim that I
estimates of the India crop are' being!
reduced by 250,000 bales. The New
Tork market will be closed on Saturday,
Lincoln's birthday, while Liver-1
pool and New Orleans will be open as I
usual.
Receipts at the ports today 24,457
bales against 12,384 last week and 27,390
last year. For the week 75,000
against 74.521 last week and 201,892
last year. Today's reecipts at New
Orleans 2,354 bales against 6,544 last
year and at Houston 3,454 against 10,480
last year.
