Governor Ansel on July 9th granted a full pardon to Daniel Zimmerman, a vestrymen in the local Episcopal church, and prominent socially, who is serving three years for embezzlement of state bonds. Great Influence was brought to bear for a pardon." The above is a dispatch from Co1 lumbia. We have no particular criticism to make of the use of the pardoning power in this case. It may have been Justified; at any rate we do not know that it was not. Nor Is that the point we seek to emphasize. . We object to the manner of connectr ing the crime of embezzling with official position in the church. No sensible person argues that the church amounts to nothing because it has hypocrites in it.
