The Case ok Col. Stewart.?Col.
William F. Stewart, the Arizona exile,
may have his faults; we suspect he
has; but nobody can charge him with
being a quitter. The order sent to him
last September from the war department
advised him of the intention of
J* the department to assign him to a station,
probably P'ort Grant, Arizona,
without command. But it disclosed
that the president had directed that
before the order was issued a chance
should be given him to apply for retirement.
The order continued:
4 The acting secretary of war directs
that immediately upon receipt of this
communication you telegraph acknowledgment
thereof to his office,
and that within 24 hours afterwards
you advise this office by telegraph
whether you do or do not desire immediate
retirement, under section 1,243,
revised statutes.
That was eight months ago. Col.
Stewart has been to Arizona, travelled
to Florida, been rejected there, and
gone again to Arizona. If his health
is good, his disposition as complicated
* as without special knowledge we have
faith to believe it is, and if he has
been permitted to receive and read the
daily papers, the chances are he has
had the most fun he ever had in any
eight months in all his life. He has
been advertised in every paper in the
country. Nothing definite has been
printed to his discredit: he has seen
his case involve the president and the
senate in a clash of authority, which
promises to be fought out in due time:
and if contention is his specialty he
must surely be a very happy man. It
does not seem as if his case had been
skilfully^managed for anybody except
himself: but so far as he is concerned,
any personal discomforts he may have
suffered must seem to him a bagatelle
compared with the fun he is having.?

For a Buggy or Surrey and not too
BUSY to save money on these, call
and allow us to show you our line. For
a limited time, In order to help build
up this branch of our business, we are
dividing our legitimate profit with the
purchaser.
We consider our customers our best
advertisement, but they are too busy
and have something else to do besides '
this, so we take this additional means
of reaching the buyer.
Have bought largely in anticipation
of a good year's business, and if prices
and terms are any inducement, we are
going to move them.
If you will allow usi to show you our
line and name prices and terms and
you wisely conclude you can get better
Inducements, we will guarantee you a
bargain. We sell nothing but what

well as our own.
