Aiken Visited by Burglars.
The town of Aiken was visited by a
-? gang of professional burglars during
last Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Among the residences visited were
those of Messrs. F. B. Henderson, L.
Bradwell, W. J. Piatt, and Dr. J.
?. Frampton Wyman. Nothing was
known of the raid until Sunday
morning, when it developed that the
different residences had been robbed
of money and jewelry in amounts and
values running from $150 to $1,000.
Investigation showed that the burglars
^ prospected several other residences
without entering. This was evident
from the tracks around the different
houses. Most of the money and jewelry
was stolen from bed rooms in which
the owners were sleeping, and the circumstances
indicated that in most
cases the burglars must have had to
remain in the rooms for quite a while.
When the alarm was given next morning,
bloodhounds were put on the trail
of the burglars: but without result.
The Aiken people are very much excited
and also very uneasy.

YOUR WATCH?
How is it Running ?
Does it keep time correctly? Or is
it sometimes fast and sometimes slow?
Sometimes stopped or something else
the matter with it. Suppose you have
it cleaned. A watch that is not cleaned
and oiled occasionally, no matter
how fine it i3, will sooner or later get
so it will not run "just right," and if it
does not run just right, is it of value
to you? Just suppose you bring the
watch you have in next week during
the carnival and let me clean it up
for you. The cost will not be great,
and the satisfaction of having your
watch run just right will more than
repay you for the cost. You are coming
to the carnival next week. Bring
your watch, jewelry or clocks if they
are in need of repairing. First-class
work guaranteed.

While We Could
TAKE up several columns of this
paper in giving a detailed description
of the various lines carried by us,
those descriptions would not enable its
readers to fully appreciate the ideas
we intended to convey as thoroughly as
even a casual examination of the stock
Itself with the naked eye. We know 1
that our line of furniture is complete
in every department and that we have
it as fine and as rich as any are nicely
to desire, and that we also have it
as cheap in quality and price as anybody
is likely to ask for. We know
that our line of Cooking and Heating
Stoves is complete and that we are
prepared to meet every demand in
thist line. We know that we are in position
to offer the choicest patterns and
the lowest prices in Carpets and Matting,
and all that kind of thing, and
we also know that unless you give us
a look and ask for prices, we are not
likely to "get together." We are sure
that you will consult your personal
interest by seeing us and we most cordially
invite everybody to come to this
store when Furniture, Pictures, Organs,
Cooking Stoves, Trunks, Knives, Razors,
Scissors and other articles we
handle are wanted. If you do not find
us right as to style, quality, price and
terms, why just cut us out. But don't
do any cutting until after you have
looked aind heard.

Convinced by Experience.
SOLID business men everywhere look
upon life Insurance as the one absolutely
safe and sure means of building
up an estate that will be certain
to be available when needed, or providing
for old age in case they are so fortunate
as to live to be old. The wisest
ones look before they leap and place
the future of themselves and families
with the Mutual Benefit. When the
company entered South Carolina about
fourteen years ago, one of the wealthiest
and most successful business men
of the State, who knew the company
by reputation as being the best, applied
for and secured a policy for $5,000.
He carried It five years and was
so thoroughly pleased with the contract
and the careful economical manner
the company was managed, as evidenced
by the large annual dividends
he received, that In 1895 he applied
for and secured $10,000 more insurance,
making $15,000 in all, which
amount he carried until recently when
he applied for and secured $35,000
more, making $50,000, the company's
limit on one life. The name of this
citizen will be furnished on application,
and also proof that the Mutual
Benefit is the best policy holder's com
pany In business.

Gold Dollars For
Ninety Cents.
WE do not, never have and never
expect to claim that we are selling:
gold dollars for ninety cents, but
we do claim, have proved and expect to
continue to prove that we are strictly
in the lead when it comes down to full
value for every dollar charged for
everything sold by us. The time has
been when the buying public of this
section did not know as well as it does
now, and therefore we were somewhat
at a disadvantage, but since we have
become better acquainted the aforesaid
public has learned by experience
and observation that we are in position
to back every business proposition we
make and DO BACK THEM. We do
not expect business except on business
principles. We know that we are in
position to give greater value for the
price asked in Buggies, Wagons and
Harness than other dealers and are
satisfied that in future we will have
scores of customers who will freely endorse
the statement of Mr. Hugh

us a testimonial last summer, based on
personal experience, in which he stated
