The disastrous fire at our sister town?Rock Hill?recently, where the investments of so many of our friends were burned up, will illustrate the point we wish to make here. When fire comes home to us, so to speak, the first question asked is, was he or she insured ? If tue answer is in the negative?with a shake of the head, we hear something of short sighted business policy?shouldn't have gone without insurance, investments ought to be insured against loss, etc. Now the same wise policy that induces you to insure against loss by fire, should apply to all your business transactions. If you paint your house and invest in material $50.00, $100.00, or $150.00, using so and so's mixed Paints or Blank's Pure White Lead, you are in a "Wild Cat" Company. If you use Longman <fc Martinez' Pure Prepared Paint, you are covered by a policy of insurance against loss, as good for the amount as the strongest insurance company in the land. Kuykendal, Agent. Stand by the Record. 1"T has been asserted in this advertisement j_ mat "xne now iirana," naw none uuano was ?3.00 per Ton better than Pacific Guano, is shown by analysis of the State Department ef Agriculture. To remove any doubt on this Eoint and confirm our position, we will stand y the record. The figures are infallible. When drawing our comparison, we used the lowest commercial value of each Brand, as shown in the record, viz: Sample No. 58, Plow Brand, commercial value ?118.34. Sample No. 34, Pacific Guano, commercial value ?25.34. To be moro zealous in our efforts to boom the Plow Brand and use its highest commercial value in comparison with the lowest of the Pacific, as tias been the plan of my friend of the Pacific, the record will show a difference in favor of the Plow Brand of ?4.6f>. Wo waive this comparison for the present, and squarely claim that when ottering the Plow Brand wo offer a goods $3.00 per ton better than any sold in this market, but we will not ask you to pay us the difference in price. THE CYCLONE EXTINGUISHER Tirzah, S. C., March 10, 1887. Messrs. Jeffervs & Hoke, Gents: THE Cyclone Spark Extinguisher put on my engine a few months ago is giving entire satisfaction. JBeforo it was put on, my gin aouse several umes caugni, nre irom sparas, so [ had to quit running while the wind was Mowing in the direction of the gin-house. Now I jan gin and saw with perfect safety, no matter which way the wind blows. Haven't seen a live spark from the engine since I have been using it. /Vnd another goocfthing about it is, it can't wear pr burn out. Will last as long as the engine. I ;hink it a great invention, and wouldn't take iouble the cost of mine if it was so I couldn't ?et another one. I think yon ought to reduce ;he present high rate of insurance on gin-houses where these extinguishers aro used on the engines, or, at least, recommend such to the companies you represent, because I see no risk whatever from the engine. Verv respectfully, HENRY MASSEY.
