Late in the evening George Beckham and Sar
Walker were brought to town and their wound
were dressed by Drs. Lindsay and White. Sar
Walker was not seriously hurt, his injury bein
I the loss of the upper half of his left ear, cut wit
a knife. George Beckham received a thirty-tw

which was extracted by Dr. White, and in ad

received a slight cut on the upper lip, and tw
severe cuts on the head, one of them over th
brow, making a deep indentation in the bone
His wounds, though numerous and serious, ar
not of a necessarily fatal character. Andy Neel;
was slightly hurt, though probably he was mor
scared. He says the air "was lined with rocks
sticks and pistol bullets." Charlie Howie wa
also bruised to some extent, though not seri

the action, and ran at race-horse speed two mile
before stopping.
Besides those mentioned, who were most se
riously hurt, there were probably fifteen o
twenty others who received slight wounds, i
general stampede followed the first clash. Th
meeting closed without the formality of a dox
ology, and frightened negroes of both sexes am
all ages and conditions scampered in every di
rection.

DYSPEPSIA CAY BE CURED.
THERE is perhaps no disease so prevalent as
DYSPEPSIA, or INDIGESTION, and one
I too, that up to the present time, has baffled the
skill of the most eminent physicians. Twoj
thirds of the chronic diseases have their origin
I in Dyspepsia. The symptoms are loss of appetite,
loss of llesh, a feeling of fullness or weight
j in the stomach, occasionally nausea and vomiting,
acidity, tlatulence, dull paiu in the head,
i witli a sensation of heaviness or giddiness, irreg!
ularity of bowels, low spirits, sleeplessness, sallow
skin, derangement of kidneys, and not unfrecjuent
palpitation of the heart. If you are
sutiering with anv of these svinptoms, Dr.
HOLT'S DYSPEPTIC ELIXIR'will cure you.

Is He A Dangerous Maniac ?
SUNDAY morning at 2 o'clock, as a night
hawk was on his way home his attention was
attracted by groans and peculiar cries proceeding
from the doorway of a DRY GOODS STORE,
on Congress street, near the Old Chap's abode,
(and it is well for him that he did not hear those
groans at that lonelv hour in the night time.)
On approaching, he found a man pacing up and
down on the floored pavement in an excited
manner; his gray lieaa was bared, and, in the
light of the street lamp his eyes glittered and
flashed with a terrifying gleam; his clothing
was disordered and soiled, and in one hand a
large open knife was distinctly visible, (well for
the Ola Chap that he did not see that knife, or he
would have less hair on top of his head than he
now has), while the other clasped what looked
like a black leather pocket-book. (Such a thing
as that never frightens the Old Chap off, always
on). The night-hawk did not like the looks of
the apparition, and turned toward his home in an
unostentatious and unobtrusive manner, and a
trot of considerable energy. With a swift and
noiseless movement the stranger overtook him,
and in a voice of thrilling cadence, made more
impressive by the darkness and other surrounding
circumstances, said, "Halt!" (Guess if that
had been the Old Chap, he would have halted in
short order). The man measured the distance to
his home, mentally calculating the chance of the
police reaching him in time to save the coroner a
job, and concluded to risk it.
The stranger then proceeded, in a rapid and incoherent
way, to give an account of some transaction
in which he had participated. As well as
could be made out, it seems that last year he
omitted to obtain a supply of Dry Goods and

means dropped into another house and made his
Eurchases. All would have worked out well
ad not some of his near neighbors bought from
the Old Chap, and, as usual, commenced to compare
notes, and his better-half, being the better
judge, seeing how much, of her hard earnings
she had lost by her husband not purchasing the
goods from T. M. DOBSON & CO., the result
was domestic unhappiness, caused by not having
as many nor as good goods as if he had purchased
'them from the Old Chap, as he is noted
for keeping good goods at low prices, and never
misrepresenting anything to make sales, nor
does he ever run down his neighbors' goods, nor
open bundles and cause parties to be dissatisfied.
He deals fair and square with all mankind. This
man, knowing that fact, came many miles to
guard against a similar error this year, was on
the ground awaiting the opening, forgetting that
it was Sunday. His knife was for suicide in case
of failure. The purpose of his pocket-book is
too obvious for explanation. He, also had not
forgotten that for every $2.00 spent with the Old
Chap he would get a chance at the WATCHE?,
BUGGY and SEWING MACHINE. It is needless
to add that the would-be suicide remained
over until Monday and saved enough in buying
his goods from the Old Chap to pay his hotel bill
and this year there will be no domestic troubles,
and just for that if nothing else, he will always
call on the Old Chap.

chills daily for two months, when he commenced
taking your chill cure. Since taking your
cure he has not had one, it being thirty davs
since commencing, and I consider him cured by
the use of your chill cure, when Quinine and
other chill remedies had tailed.
