worthy of a Pennsylvania exhibition, and that it is gratifying to observe the general and earnest drift of the Southern people to the practical development of her boundless wealth. Fatal Political Quarrel.?At Madison Court House, Va., last Monday morning, John Hall, the proprietor of a hotel and saloon there, had a difficulty with Philip Page, colored, and driving him out of the saloon, followed with his pistol in hand. Hall pointed the weapon at Page as they quarreled, threatening to shoot. Page cried "shoot," and Hall fired, the ball striking Page on the neck, ranging upward to the brain. He fell dead, never uttering a word. Hall then ran into the saloon, locked him self in, and with two pistols at nana tnreatened to shoot any one trying to arrest him. The law officers called together a posse, but the man kept them at bay until the house was surrounded, and seeing no chance of escape he surrendered on condition that he should be protected from mob violence. He was then taken to jail and locked up. The row is said to have been a political one. Apprehension of lynching is felt. Jfiromcral anir Commercial. 7' YORKVILLE, October 17.-Cotton 9 to 9.85. DOBSON. THAT AWFUL FEVER AGAIN ! WELL, Miss Schlegelmilch, did you ever know of such a contagious fever, in all | your life, as that which is swallowing up this country just now? It has been prevailing, to a certain extent, for the past fifteen years, but this year it has assumed such a malignant form that it seems like every portion of York county is being affected by it, and if something is not done very soon to stop its progress, it will have spread to every nook and corner of the county. Go to DOBSON'S when you will, you will see new faces eager to catch this fever. All you have to do in order to get a good case of it is just to Purchase One Bill of Dry Goods /\lrl Plmn onri fhnf aofflou fhi* thinp* X1 ruin HIU U1U vvXit**m?v ?..? ?...n right now. The awful fever takes hold of you at once, and it is so pleasant there is no getting clear of it; and, the fact of the business is, you do not wanttogetclearofit. Itdoes not hurt you? itdoes your pocket good, and that which does the pocket good generally does the heart good these days. Miss Snighoper, I caught the thing ten years ago, and I have still got it, and I hope, if I live as long as Mathuselah, I will still have it. * ' I HAVE SAVED MONEY BY IT, And I expect to keep saving money by it. Not only T, but York county has Saved Thousands of Dollars Bv a spell of the DOBSON fever. I am utterly astonished at the number of new cases that have been developed in the past few weeks. The fact of the business is, the Old Chap is SELLING MORE GOODS THAN ANYBODY, And so he ought, because he sells so cheap, and keeps such nice goods. He receives orders from Lincolnton, Gastonia, and even from Morganton, in North Carolina, and Chester, Rock Hill and Fort Mill, in South Carolina, and many other little places not necessary to mention. He seems to be always crowded, Especially in the Millinery Department. * He has a little accommodating wife, whom, it seems, almost every lady that comes to Yorkville, wants to see before she leaves. And why? Because she SELLS SLOH NICE GOODS And is so well posted. Can give you almost any information you may want in regard to Styles in Hats, Bonnets, And all kinds of Millinery, and besides she runs a DRESS MAKING DEPARTMENT, And a fashionable one, too. It is crowded from day to day. Ladies wanting Dresses Made, or Dresses Cut and Fit, And information about trimming this and that, which Mrs. DODSOX always gives cheerfully, and this adds a great deal to that fever. It makes IT SO EASILY CAUGHT. You are caught by it not knowingly; and the very tirst thing you know you find you have a good case, and will never want to ho cured. i tell you, men, women and children, Dobson is Selling the Goods, ! And selling them cheap,'too. ' So I advise every I person just to buy one bill of goods from i I i DOBMKWS LITTLE WIFE, i i I I j And she will make you feel so much at home j that you will never go anywhere else. The fact is you won't want to go anywhere else. The Old Chap stands back on his dignity, if he has any, I and says to all men who have bovs that want I i Ready-JIade Clothing, I I That he has them from 4 years up, and nice ones i too. Hoys of York county, go and seethe Old I ('Imp'sClothing; you will be ?ww * nrimir wm 1'iifi.infiii n i i ii li, i In fact every person wanting any kind of goods will save money liv seeing the Old Chap's stock. i Koniciiihcr the (ilobc Shin. 1 I I T. This was the only thought by which we were actuated when we first proposed to make extensive changes which to-day area reality in your midst. The wants of the people we are determined to supply. This fact is now fully demonstrated. The change tolls the amount of outlay was unlimited. Department after department has been added. The capital required for such of these departments would make a handsome bank account. But'tis done, inspired by an ambitition that our city should stand second io none, we felt that to bring onr immense establishment on an equal footing with New York, Boston or elsewhere, we had to place before on" matrons a stock of such magnitude, containing mil assortments in each department, of Dress Fabrics, Silks, Satins, Velvets, Millinery, Ac. We have made our selections from the * nmiHfffiaiMiiiiii We have also added a LADIES', MISSES and CHILDREN'S underwear Department, never before attempted in the South. This Department occupies one of the range of Magnificent Galleries which are reached ny four stairways. The entire establishment brilliantly lighted "by Fifty Chandeliers, presenting a most beautiful picture. We have also added, at the earnest solicitation of our many friends, a \V*ant long and very much felt in this section, namelv, a Dressmaking Department. Wo therefore bog to inform the ladies of North and South Carolina that we have secured the services of two as skilled artists as have ever catered to the tastes of the Ladies of tiiis section, Mrs. Smith as Cutter and Fitter, and Miss Marshall as Draper and Finisher. These ladies' artistic taste has long been known in the most fashionable circles of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Chicago. Therefore We Have No Hesitation In saying to the Ladies North and South Carolina" that we have now a First Class Dress Making Department, where Ladies can relv on their most particular ideas as to any freak of fashion will be realized. We have fitted up in excellent style a very spacious room for our Dress Making Department, supplied with everything necessary for its requirements, and we are now fully prepared to guarantee satisfaction in fitting, style and workmanship.
