OBITUARY. J
Died?At Pleasant Valley, Dallas county, Tex as,
on the6th of October, 1882, WILLIAM GARRISON,
son of Arthur Garrison, formerly of
Ebenezer, York county, S. C., aged about fortyone
years.
In Bullock's Creek township, York county, on 1
the 3rd instant Mr. W. K. HAMILTON, aged 83 J
years 9 months and 8 days.
Mrs. K^$SIAH PORTER was born February .
26th, 1819, and died Octotier 5th, 1882. She was a J
daughter of Jesse and Nancy Garvin. She was k
married to Abner A. Porter,"January 26th, 1842.
Was converted and joined the M. E. Church,
South, at the Sandj- Springs oamp-meeting, in
August, 1847. She subsequently became a member
at Yorkville. She was a great sufferer for
several years?was confined at home for 15 years.
She died in peace, leaving her husband and seven
children to mourn their loss. She said to her ]
husband when dyiug, "all is well." !
Died October 10, 1882, in York county, S. C., j
MARY THOMPSON, daughter of IsoraThompson,
in the 9th year of her age. Mary was born
in Bradley county, Arkansas, and in her infancy
was bereft of her mother, Nancy Thompson, who
gave her to Mrs. Margaret Ann McElwee, a sister
living in York county, S. C. Mrs. McElwee
went out to Arkansas in July and took possession 1
of h^r tender charge and brought her to Carolina, a
where she received all of a maternal care, softened I
by the many recollections ofa sad history. Little a
Mary was a motherless child, but she never knew t
what it was to lack a mother's love. She was
delicate in constitution, but developed no special ^
symptoms of an alarming character ; j'et some of a
tier friends marked her high typed blonde as un- I
favorable, and were heard to admire and wonder
at the delicacy and beauty of her complexion
We all noticed her womanly sobriety and grave
countenance. Those who knew her best never
knew her to hide the truth, or prevaricate, or
swerve from the strictest integrity. Two weeks
belore her death, she took diphtheria, and lingered o
with fluctuating hopes and fears, till the stealthy ?
foe suddenly snat'-hed his helpless victim away t
at a time when all were hopeful. She walked
from the sofato'the bed 15 minutes before her departure.
She is gone and we may congratulate
licr on her emancipation from a world of sin and
sorrow. Jesus takes little children in his arms
yet, and invites them to come. E. E. B.
