A Hqrrible Death;?Referring to the
death of Hon. George A. Reeves, Speaker of
the Texas House of Representatives, a Dallas
dispatch says : He was bitten by a mad dog
several weeks ago. At the time he tried to
apply a plaster to the wound, but it- could not
be made to adhere. He did not suffer an actual
attack of hydrophobia until a few days
ago. When finding that he was going mad, he
% instructed his friends to lash him to his bed to
prevent his harming any of them. His agony,
his ravings and his frothing became horrible
and for twenty-four hours preceding his death,
his suffering and frenzy were indescribable.
He expired at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
He has been for years one of the most prominent
men in Texas and was a candidate for reelection
to the Legislature to represent Cook
and-Grayson counties.
Acquittal of Col. Haile.?The case in
the Kershaw Circuit Court against Col. Haile
for the rauder of Major Blair, in Camden on
the 4th of last July, was ended at 10 o'clock
last Saturday night with a verdict of not guilty.
The evidence left no ground upon which
to base an assumption that the killing was
the result of a political quarrel, and in his
argument for the prosecution Judge Mackey,
of counsel, did not even press the point.
ftomnrations for Office.
For the House of Representatives.
The friends, acquaintances, neighbors and com
radesin war of W. NORMAN ELDER,"of Bethesda
township, suggest him to the voters of York
county as a fit and proper person to represent
them in the next Bouse of Representatives. Mr.
Elder is in the prime of life; a good farmer; is a
man of liberal education and sterling honesty,
and as a soldier in the late war had tew equals and
no superiors. He entered the w&r as a private in
Company A, Sixth Regiment, was at the surrender
of Fort Snmter, and was in every battle In
which the Sixth Regiment was engaged until the
surrender at Appomattox. We cannot fill our
ticket for the House of Representatives without
hisname. MANY VOTERS.
