IMPROVED HARRIS' FERTILIZER.
BEST BEmTS, WITH LEAST EXPENSE.
IF the destructive drouth of the past season has
taught the farmer of the county a lesson at
all, it is, that he must find and adopt a more economical
method of fertilizing his crops. On the
very threshold of his farm operations, he necessarily
incurs one of the largest obligations he has
to meet, and the hardest of all to pay, should the
season prove unfavorable.
Whilst it is conceded that in ordinary seasons
the use of acid phosphate and guanos is remunerative,
it takes too great a per cent, of the crop
raised to pay for them. There is money in them;
but not enough.
The want of the farmer, therefore, is a Cheap
Fertilizer?one known to contain all the fertilizing
elements of the high grade commercial manures?at
a less price And right here we claim,
as we have been advocating it for the past ten
years, that this want can be met and filled only
by the use of fertilizing chemicals in connection
with home made manures.
c -i.UU A l...n
1 00 reSOU rut'S ul u1u ?t?uic auu uaiu-jqiu ni o
often wasted ; a thousand pounds of stable manure,
which is about a wo-horse load, being thrown
broadcast over one-fourth of an acre of land,
when, if it had been manipulated with a few bushels
of cotton seed and the proper fertilizing chemicals,
would have made a mixture as valuable,
pound for pound, as the highest grade guano or
acid phosphate on the market.
Every comparative statement that we have seen,
made by men who havejnvestigated the subject,
shows a balance largely in favor of the use of
chemical fertilizers, and the time should come,
and will come, when there will be a guano factory
on every farm, and every farmer will be his
own president, secretary, cashier, general agent,
agent and sub-agent, and will receive all the commissions,
discounts and profits of the business.
We have said this much for chemical manures
in general, for the purpose of calling attention in
particular to our IMPROVED HARRIS' FERTILIZER,
a chemical manure, which, we claim,
fills the felt want of an economical fertilizer, and
is richer in the phosphates, nitrogenous matter,
ammonia, soda and potash, the very essence of
high-grade commercial manures, than any other
chemical fertilizer in the market, and that they
are combined in such proportions as to produce,
with the home-made ingredients, a plant food that
is adapted to the most exacting crop.
We nave sold this formula for the past ten years,
and the numerous testimonials published, and
the continued and increasing demand, show the
esteem in which it is held by those who have
used it.
But we know that all the farmers in the county
will not use the Improved Harris' Fertilizer, and
that we could not supply them this season, if they
desired us to do so, and since they demand commercial
fertilizers, we are prepared to supply
them with an imported DISSOLVED BONE that
the manufacturers claim has no equal in the market.
It is manufactured in Dublin, Ireland, from
animal bones shipped from South America, and
being a pure dissolved bone, contains more phosphoric
acid and bone phosphate of lime, the two
ingredients that fix and determine the value of an
acid phosphate, than can be obtained from the
phosphate rock.
We also furnish an Ammoniated Bone Super
Phosphate, of very high standard, manufactured
by the same company.
PRICES:
Improved H arris' Fertilizer.?Time price,
$16.00. Freight, payable in advance, $1.95.
Dissolved Bone.?Time price, 350 lbs. middling
cotton, oron time, payable in currency, $30.

STAFF OF LIFE.
FOR about six weeks our Bread Department
has been closed. We have again secured a
GOOD BAKBR, and we expect to furnish all the
Bread we have calls for. Our stock of
BREAD AND CAKES,
Such as are commonly called for, will always be
complete. We get up nice CAKES, and any one
giving us orders for any kind of Cake can get
them filled. We are now selling our
BREAD AT 5 CENTS A LOAF.
Ousr reason for asking 5 cents is, that we cannot
sell it at 3 loaves for 10 cents with Flour at the
price it is. Our flour cost us $3.50 a sack when we
sold the bread at 3 loaves for ten cents, and now
flour is worth, such as we use, $4.75 per sack.
Hence, the reason for charging the price we ask for
it. It is cheap, though, at 5 cents. Come and get
some and try it.
HERNDON BROTHERS,

ONLY a look will convince you of our wellassorted
stock of FRENCH AND DOMESTIC
