our dues in full for the first quarter, and hope, by the help of God, to increase our membership, meet the full amount of our dues to the Conference Society, and have our love for the cause and zeal for its prosperity abundantly quickened and deepened. It i? our desire and purpose to contribute all the aid we m: be able in this great work, which is so largely engaging the sympathies and co-operation of the women of our church. Annik Jekferys, Secretary. The report was received as information, after which the meeting was addressed on the subject of foreign missions by. Mr. F. A. Connor, Bishop"Wightman and Rev. "W. A. Rogers. MERE-MENTION. Albert G. Brown, ex-Governor of Mississippi, who resided near Jackson, Miss., was thrown from his horse into a pond, near his home on Friday last, and drowned. He was 1 J nf \TlGQlQQin o/ ycsrs uiu* nc ?iia uuvoiuvi pi for two terms, and served his State as a member of Congress and of the United States Senate. Ex Senator Bayard, the father ? of the present Senator from* Delaware, died at his home in Wilmington on Sunday last. The average of the wheat crop in Kentucky is five per cent, greater than last year. The Douglass Infantry, a colored company of Augusta, Ga., have gone on an excursion to Richmond and Washington, and will pass in review before the President and Cabinet On a recent Sunday, Talraage, added 416 names to his church list, bringing the number of his membership up to 2,062. The report of the New York Cotton Exchange, for the year ending June 1, shows the total sales of cotton for future delivery in that city, to have been 36,728,200 bales?seven times the entire crop of the United States. A tract of fifty thousand acres on the Northern Pacific Railroad has been bought for a colony from Belfast Ireland. The Senate, by a vote of 39 to 3, has confirmed the appointment of Gen. Longstreet as Minister to Turkey. Correspondence of the Yorkville Enquirer. LETTER FROM KING'S MOUNTAIN. King's Mountan, N. C., June 12.?The wheat harvest in this section is now fully in progress. The yield will probably be two-1 thirds of an average crop. The oat crop will j also be light. Corn and cotton are promising, and there has been no lack for labor. The growing crops have been well worked, and they are in a forward state. This season our farmers have under cultivation in cotton nearly double the amount%of land planted last year. The amount of corn is about the same as last year. We have here some model farmers, among whom I may mentiou Messrs. Richard Garrett, James Ware, Mack Ware, H. J. Allison, and J. L. Phifer, all of whom cultivate their farms to a high state of perfection. Next Friday is commencement day iu King's Mountain High School, Capt. W. T. R. Bell, principal, located at this place. There have been about 110 students in atten-" I dance during the session just closing. In the way of improvements, five new dwellings and two new stores are now being built here. Mr. Grier Love, a gentlemen of means, has bought lots here, and I learu will erect some buildings at an early day. Among the enterprises which he proposes conducting, will be a steam gin and a tan-yard. Considerable preparations are making here for the ceremonies at King's Mountain on the 23rd instant, and those who desire to go from this point to the battle ground on that day, ^ can procure conveyance. B. Opinion of a Chnrch. The Reformed Presbyterian Synod of America, in session recently in Philadelphia, makes the following utterances officially : "Never was infidelity more bold or blatant. Newspapers are published professedly in the cause of infidelity. New books are written and old books reprinted, and lecturers go from city to city and town to town in the interests of the same unholy cause. And when an infidel lecturer of note appears in any of our cities, large audiences, paying high price for admission, crowd the halls and hail with applause the most profane aud blasphemous utterances of the speaker. Closely allied with infidelity, and manifesting itself with no less boldness in this nation and those of Europe, is Communism. Here it declares war against capital and seeks to put fetters upon labor. Especially on the Pacific coast has it been most rampant; and so loudly has it clamored, "The Chinese must go !" that a candidate for the Chief Magistracy of this nation has taken up the cry and echoed it within the walls of the capitol." The Synod advise fasting and prayer to counteract these adverse influences. Commercial. YORKVILLE, June 16.?Cotton, 7 to 102. CHARLESTON, June 15.-Cottou dull. Middling, 113.
