Yorkville enquirer. [volume] (Yorkville, S.C.) 1855-2006, December 16, 1875, Image 3
probate judges were passed and ordered for
ratification.
A bill to amend section 55 of chapter 120
of the General Statutes, relating to liens on
crops, being the unfinished business of yesterday
at the hour of adjournment, was resumed.
The chair ruled that the amendment (proposed
by Mr. Bampfield) was out of order,
because it would not only modify, but annihilate
the bill.
Mr. Bampfield then offered a substitute for
the bill, entitled "A bill to repeal section 55,
chapter 120, of the General Statutes, relative
to the lien on crops," which was considered.
The bill provoked considerable discussion.
The repeal of the law was favored by Whipper,
Bampfield, Barber and Humbert, and
opposed by Nesbitt, Sloan, Hirsch, Leslie and
Hamilton. The substitute offered by Bampfield
was passed by a vote of 56 to 42. The
substitute limits the kinds of produce on
which liens can be taken, with the modification
that the bill shall not take effect before
1st January, 1877.
The Verdict.?A jury is supposed to represent
fairly the general intelligence of the
community from which it is taken. The guilt
or innocence of a party, the value or worthlessness
of an article, is established by its verdict.
A verdict has recently been rendered
by a jury composed of the best men taken
from enprv oniintrtr on the crlnhe r the evidence
J ?? "J O '
was clear and impartial, and thousands of
witnesses gave their testimony. The trial
was a long one, occupying ten years, and the
jury have at last brought in a verdict which
was, "That Dr. Tutt's Pills possess greater
power over disease than any medicine invented
since the foundation of the world." It is
pronounced by all a righteous verdict.
If your Throat Feels Sore or Uncomfortable,
use promptly Dr. Jayne's Expectorant.
It will relieve the air-passages of all
phlegm or mucous, allay inflammation, and so
give the affected parts a chance to heal. No
safer remedy can be had for all Coughs and
Colds, or any complaint of the Throat or
Lungs, and if taken in time, a short trial will
prove its efficacy.
