I have been informed i that the work on twenty miles of this distance will be light, and can be done at about $700 ( per mile. The public will hear, with a great deal of satisfaction, of the strong probability, indeed, almost certainty, of the completion of the grading between Dallas and Lenoir, in a reasonable time. < Dr. Davega gives very favorable accounts \ of the corn crop in Western North Carolina. 1 Owing to the fine prospects, corn fell in value considerably within the past week, at Lincoln- " ton, and promises to undergo a still greater decline with the approach of the new crop. Last week was observed as a week of prayer by the Methodists of this circuit. Rev. Mr. Mitchell and Rev. Mr. Walker, who are both 1 fine preachers, spent the time in ministering ( to their churches. He portray- ^ ed in true and beautiful colors the consequen- I ces of sin, and then alluded, by way of en- J coiiragement, to those who were endeavoring t to walk in the narrow way, to the blessed f fruits of holiness. He promises to arrive at 1 the front rank among the ministers of his denomination. f "It never rains but it pours" is a saying that applies to the present time with particular appropriateness. Yesterday, and again : to-day, the rain has been pouring down, threatening, if it continues, to flood the countrv.
