and battery. Sentenced to imprisonment in
the county jail for one hour.
The graud jury submitted the following report
:
To his Honor T. J. Market/, Presiding Judge:
The grand jury beg leave to make the following
report:
In regard to the jail, we have visited it, and find
it its clean and comfortable as could be expected.
The prisoners are supplied with good straw beds
and a sufficiency of bed covering to keep them
warm and comfortable, and the jail appears to be
sufficiently secure for the safe-keeping of prisoners.
In regard to the Poor House, we report that we
find the inmates, with few exceptions, in comfortable
houses. Some of the houses need repairing,
to which we have called the attention of the County
Commissioners, asking that the needed repairs
^ be made at once. We find the inmates comfortably
clad, and that they have been furnished
with good beds and bedding, good medical attendance,
and a sufficiency of food. We would recommend
that a building be erected for use as a
hospital for the better care and comfort of the
sick.
We have examined the books of the Sheriff, the
Probate Judge and the Clerk of the Court, and
find that they are kept in a neat and proper manJr
ner.
L We have been unable to examine the books of
I but one of the Trial Justices of the county?that
1 of H. K. Roberts, Esq.?which we find satisfactory
; and we would recommend that the other
Trial Justices be required to present their books
for examination at the next term of the Court.
% We have examined the lv>oks of the County
School Commissioner and find them very well
kept; but we regret to learn that some of the
school teachers are very negligent, and that some
of the school trustees are unable to read and write.
In regard to the fence laws of the State, after
careful consideration, as requested by your Honor,
we would respectfully recommend that the
General Assembly of the State, now in session,
^ should pass an act submitting it to a vote of the
people of this county whether or not they desire
any change in the present fence laws of our State.
We are pleased to report to your Honor that we
have been unable to find any cases of lawlessness
which have not been taken bold of by the proper
authorities; and furthermore, we are pleased to
say that by your administration of the laws in
York county we are enabled to report the county
peaceable, and the civil law, as administered by
your Honor, sufficient to govern.
All of which is respectfully submitted.

yjSjV THE Executive Committee of the

represent to the citizens of Yorkville,
and to the public in general, that
this Institution enters upon another

and at the same time offering superior inducements
to all having daughters to educate, by its
well-managed Female Institute and tried and approved
teachers.
It is also believed that the new arrangements
for boarding will not only contribute to the entire
satisfaction of the boarders, but also furnish an
element of strength in promoting the cause of
female education, so generously undertaken by
the citizens of Yorkvillc and vicinity. In this
connection, it gives us great pleasure to state that
the Hoarding Department of the Institute will be
under the charge and control of Rev. D. HARRISON
and family, aided by a lady as Matron,
whose groat experience and intelligent management
afford a guaranty of satisfaction to all concerned
; and while all who patronize the Institute
and pay board at all, will be required to board in
the Institution, thero cannot arisea doubt that the
requirement will conduce as much to thepleasuro
and profit of the pupils as to tho interest of the
institution itself, since the great object we have in
view is to give the pupils not only thorough mental
and moral training, but tosurround them with
the comforts and safeguards of a well-ordered
home.
Though the Institution will be non-sectarian in
character, it will always aim to inculcate and instill
principlesof the highest type of morality and
religion.

JOHN 0. KUYKENDAL.
187S.' THE YORK DRUG STORE. 1875.
THE year 1874 has beeu gathered to his fathers.
Solemn bells tolled the funeral notes of his
departure. Merry bells rang out the joyous news
of the birth of his successor, 187f>.
The "York Drug Store" man stands up and
congratulates himself that he was favored (though
in one respect, on rather sudden notice,) by being
personally present, both at the funeral and theaccouchment.
The new year finds the York Drug Store a live
and flourishing institution. This liappy condition
is due to the liberal patronage bestowed upon
it in the past, and the "Y. D. S." man embraces
this opportunity of bowing acknowledgments
and thanks to a generous public with the hope to
merit a continuance of their favors in the future.
JOHN C. KUYKENDAL.
