KING'S MOUNTAIN RAILROAD. i Just before going to press, we received the J following dispatch, dated Charleston, March i 20, 1872 : ! "L. M. Grist:?I have bought a controlling interest in the King's Mountain Railroad and postponed the sale. G. W. Melton." ! THE MILITARY ARRESTS. ' Within the past two weeks three arrests have been made?the prisoners being J. M. Kirkpatrick, J. B. Kirkpatrick and W. L. Fulton. J. F. Little was released fromcus- I tody on the 14th, on his own recognizance in the sum of ?3000. There are now twentythree military prisoners in confinement here. , < TIIE K. M. MILITARY SCHOOL. i We have been informed by Col. Coward that s the Washington and Lee University, at Lex- < ington, Va., has endowed the Kiug's Moun- \ 1-'- CnUnrvl of fhic nlnpp with Jin ( Ull LI iUJUiaiJ' UV/11UU1) uv vuiw |/**?vvy ...... ^ annual prize scholarship in that institution. < The terras of the endowment authorize Col. Coward, each year, to select the most proficient scholar in his institution and place this donation at his disposal. The pecuniary benefit conferred consists in the fact that the re- i cipient is not liable for tuition fees, and incurs no expenses other than boarding and inci- 1 dentals. ( ? f TIIE CIRCUIT COURT. c The Circuit Court for York county com- t raenced its sitting on Tuesday last, His Honor s Judge Thomas presiding. The Grand Jury { reported only two true bills, one against John ] Shaw and Robert McCorkle, charged with j assault and battery with intent to kill; and ( the other against Lawrence Withers and Andrew Bridges, charged with larceny. The Grand Jury was discharged on Tuesday evening. A case against Thomas Spence and W. P. Roddy, charged with larceny of cotton, is in progress at the time we go to press. It is quite probable that the Court will not take f up any other cases at this term. Cruelty in an Illinois Prison.?An ] Illinois paper thus details how an insane pris- t oner was treated in the Illinois penitentiary : * "A convict who became insaue was accused of . hypocrisy and was stripped, covered with croton oil, cupped in the back, alcohol poured down his back till it was blistered, and then J hand and foot-cuffed, and compelled to lie on * the blister on a straw bed. Two or three hnntef-a nf r>nM water at a time would be thrown on him in cold weather in bed, and he would be left chained down in this condition, A This was continued a month or so. The case * was reported by the nurse that took care of him." J&aT Suow is still falling in Maine. The Eu- ] ropean and North American railroad is block* ? ed by drifts. The interruption to railroad . travel from this cause during the past two weeks is the most protracted that has been 1 experienced for years. A dispatch from St. j John's, N. B., says that another storm is threatened. poisoneiTto death. ] A healthy liver secretes each day about two \ and a half pounds of bile, which contains a great amount of waste material taken from the blood. When the liver becomes torpid or congested, it fails to eliminate this vast amount J of noxious substance, which, therefore remains to poison the blood and be conveyed to every part of the system. What must be the condition of the blood when it is receiving and re- A taining each day two and a half pounds of poison? Nature tries to work off this poison through other channels and organs?the kidneys, lungs, skin, etc.; but these organs be- j come overtaxed in performing this labor, in addition to their natural functions, and cannot long withstand the pressure, but become variously diseased. I The brain, which is the great electrical centre of all vitality, is unduly stimulated by the unhealthy blood which passes to it from - * n n , the heart, ana it iaus to periorm its omce healthfully. Hence the symptoms of bile ' poisoning, which are dullness, headache, incapacity to keep the mind on any subject, impairment of memory, dizzy, sleepy, or nervous feelings, gloomy forebodings and irritability of temper. The blood itself being diseased as I it forms the sweat upon the surface of the skin, it is so irritating and poisonous that it produces discolored brown spots, pimples, * blotches and other eruptions, sores, boils, carbuncles and scrofulous tumors. The stomach, g bowels and other organs spoken of, cannot i escape becoming affected sooner or later, and costiveness, piles, dropsy, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, female weakness and many other forms of \ chronic disease, are among the necessary results. As a remedy for all these various manifestations of disease, Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery is positively unequaled. By it the liver and stomach are changed to I f an active, healthy state, the appetite regulated and restored, the blood and secretions j a thoroughly purified and enriched, and the J whole system renovated and built up anew. .Sold by all first-class druggists. i In eTeTy Quarter of the Globe where it is . known, and there are few indeed where it is 1 not, the Mexican Mustang Liniment takes 1 precedence of all similar preparations. Its | transcendant merits have obtained for it a \ popularity seldom reached by any proprietary j medicine. In its infancy the fiat of its sue- I cess was pronounced in the wide-spread en-1 dorsement which it received from physicians, j' veterinary surgeons, horsemen and the public I. generally. No one now thinks of questioning I j its claim to be considered the Standard Lini- ] nient of America. Jinancral an!) Commercial. YORKVILLE, March 20.-Cotton 17 to 20. EXPERIENCE in the Use of this Guano for the past six years in this State, for Cotton and Corn, has so far established its character for excellence as to render comment unnecessary. In accordance with the established policy of the Company to furnish the best Concentrated Fertilizer at the lowest cost to consumers, this Guano is put into market this season at the above reduced price, which the Company is enabled to do by reason of its large facilities and the reduced cost of manufacture. The supplies put into market this season are, as heretofore, prepared under the personal superintendence of Br. St. Julien Ravenel, Chemist of the Company, at Charleston, 8. C., hence, planters may rest assured that Its QUALITY AND COMPOSITION is precisely the same as that heretofore sold. At the present low price every acre planted can be fertilized with 200 pounds Guano at a cost not exceeding the present value of 30 pounds of cotton, while experience has shown that under favorable conditions of season and cultivation the crop is increased by tbe application from two to threefold the natural capacity of the* soil. Hence, under no conditions could its application fail to compensate for the outlay. Apply to J. N. ROBSON, Agent Pacific Guano Company, No. 68 East Bay and Noe. 1 and 2 Atlantic Wharf, Charleston, S.
