Cotton has declined a little during the week, closing
at 23 cents for good middling.
CHESTER, Oct. 12.?Cotton*.?In consequence
of Unfavorable advices from New York and Liverpool,
our market is lower, and middling is quoted
to-day at 23 cents.
CHARLOTTE, Oct. 11.?Cotton?On Monday of '
last week the market opened at 24 to 241 cents" for
middling, and continued quiet during the week
with few fluctuations?closing inactive on Satur- 1
dav at 241 to 24ij cents. Sales for the week 388 1
bales.
Corn?Old, $1.40 to $1.45'; new, $1.20 to $1.25.
Corn Meal $1.50. . 1
Flour?$4.50 to $4.75 per sack. Wheat?None
ottering. >f.
Oats 75 to 80 cents. Peas, $1.20 to $1.2.").
NEW Y'ORK, Oct. 11?7 p. in-Cotton fully half
cent lower, with sales of 2,500 bales at 261.
LIVERPOOL, Oct 11.?3 p. m.?Cotton opened .
quiet but closed irregular?uplands 121 to 12gd.
CHARLESTON, Oct. 11.?Cotton steady with
sales of 450 bales?middling 251.
CHARLESTON, October 7.?The Crops and
Receipts.?There have been heavy rains over sec- ,
tions of the cotton region during the weok, which j
has somewhat interfered with securing the crop ; (
but "ho information has been received indicating
any damage of notei, and the weather having again '
taken a settled character, it is thought that an ;
equinoctial blow will beescapedj, and that the sea- j
son wQl be favorable for picking ior several weeita. <
The receipts at the principal cotton ports have continued
good, and the following table will show tho
comparison with last year:
1869. 1868. :
'New Orleans, October 6, 50,464 63,966
Mobile, October C, .-.23,293 19,306
Savannah, October 6, 53,698 22,680
Charleston, October 6, 26,867 11,112
Texas, October 1, 8,151 6,775
The Cotton Market.?The market for this
staple for the week undet review has exhibited
rather more steadiness, and the opinion entertained
by many that the price has reached its minimum
for tne present, unless the future receipts
should be unexpectealy large, will no doubt have ]
a healthy influence on prices. Tho staple in the
English'market opened flat at the commencement <
of the week at 12&u., but afterwards became firm- <
er, and slightly hardened to 12id. to 12$d. At Xew 1
York the article began at 27ic., improved to 28,
and has since receded to 27 jc.; while at this point
the rates were 25c. for middling uplands, but af
terwards hardened to 251 to 258c. per pound.
Corn.?The demand has been light, with moderate
receipts, say about 6,000 bushels from Baltimore,
ana limited lots from Tennessee by rail. .
About 3,000 bushels of Virginia white was sold
from the wharf in bulk, weight, at $1.47 to $1.50
per bushel. Tennessee descriptions may be quo- .
ted by the car load, from the depot, at $1.35 to $1.49
per bushel, weight, bags included, and Maryland (
qualities, in jobbing lots, at $1.45 to $1.50 per 1
bushel, weight, sacks included.
Flour.?There is a fair supply of most quali- (
ties in the market, and prices during the week have
been without important change, the demand being
firm, both from the city and country trade.
Northern and Western super at $7.25 to $7.50 per
barrel; extra $7.75 to $8 per barrel; family at $8
50 to $9.50 per barrel. Southern qualities are in
moderate supply, and may be quoted at $7.50 per
barrel for super, $8 to $8.25 for extra, and $9 to $9.50
for family descriptions.
Salt.?Large lots are held at $2.10 to $2.25 per
sack. Store lots are held at $2.30 to $2.40 per sack.
Financial.
YORKVILUE, October 13.?Gold, $1.85.
NEW YORK, Oct. 11.?Gold quiet and steadv
at $1,301.
