THE YORKYILLE ENQUIRER POR 1861. THE Proprietor, LEWIS M. GRIST, having disposed of a half-Interest in the ENQUIRER to V\'M. W. EAST, the new tirm of (JRIST it EAST hereby ofl'er their "stock in trade," for a reasonable portion of the public patronage.? They had intended to add many new attractions to their journal, such as would commend it to every home circle In ! the State, and to this end were making outlays amounting in I the uggregatc to uearly ! ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS; but the solemn crisis through which as a people we are passing, the agitated statu of the public mind, the vast amouul of NEWS and popular reading artoat in the Press of the times, and the dependence of many upon us for the transmission of this matter to them, demand of us an unusual devotion to the peculiar WANTS OP THESE PATRONS. They would say, however, to the people ofthc State, that they are "standing bidders" for a place at their hearthstones; and as soon as the quietude of the times will tu all permit it, thee intend to revertth thcir"rirst love"?the establishment of a FAMILY ANU SOCIAL JOURNAL that will vie In interest with the most interesting. The Proprietors have procured FOUR OR FIVE ORIGINAL STORIES, which will equal, and some of them surpass, the Romances heretofore published In tiuflr columns.? One of them Is by Mrs. EWART, of Columbia, the wellknown and highly-admired author of "Ellen Campbell; or, King's Mountain," which adorned our pages last summer.? It ii a Domestic Story, entitled the "THE WEALTH OP HOME;" and judging from tlie opening chanters, will be more deeply interesting, if possible, than "Ellen Campbell.'* Another of these Stories is "THE SHADOW ON THE WALL"? a tale of Colonial Virginia?by JOHN EBTEN COOKE, whose genius is deepening and ripening every year, nnd who lias already contributed some of the most happily conceived and gracefully executed romances to the literature of the South. The "other Stories on band are interesting and wellwritten. The publication of these Romances will be begun as soon as the preseut excitement abates, ami the "days ot iteace," return.
