Billy Bowlegs Dead.?The Fort Smith (Arkan- * 8A9) Times of March 31, says: , "We learn from Mr. George M. Bifd, who arrived yesterday from the Seminole country, that Billy Bowlegs died suddenly at the bouse of John ( Jumper on Friday, the 11th instant. There was ? great lamentations and loud waitings among his ' people, the Seminoles. The late emigrants bad ' not arrived in the country at the time of Bowlegs' death. Mr. Bird met Col. Rutherford with them about forty miles this side of the Seminole country. They will, therefore, be deprived of the privilege of meeting their old leader and chief.? j Thus has passed away one who has been a terror j to the settlers of Florida, and one of the greatest 1 chiefs and Indian warriors of the present day." Methodists Expelled from Texas.?The Texas . papers give particulars of the proceedings of sev 1 eral meetings recently held in Fannin county for ' the purpose of taking measures to expel the members of the Methodist Church North, who fire ac- | cused of being abolitionists. At one meeting a ; committee of fifty was appointed to wait on Bisb- ! op Jayne with a warning. They performed their j duty on a Sunday, while the Bishop was engaged i in the morning service in the church. It was also 1 resolved that the Methodist Church North could j 1 not be tolerated in Texas, and that it must be put J down if necessary. A committee was appointed i to draft other resolutions to be acted upon at an < adjourned meeting.
