' #THE exercises of this Institution have been resumed under the direction of Mr. WASHINGTON MULLER, the President and Professor of Latin.? This gentleman brings with him, from the first scholars of the State, testimonials of eminent literary attainments, and especially of proficiency in the Ancient languages. Although recently at the head of a female academy, he has had many years experience as a teacher in male institutions. The Mathematical department is under the charge of PROF. JAMES II. RTON, a distinguished graduate of the South Carolina College, whose ability as a mathematician is well known. During the eight years he has been connected with the Iustitute he has given the most ample satisfaction. PROF. W. J SINGLETARY has charge of the Greek department. This gentleman is a recent graduate of the South Carolina College, and has been assigned this department upon the especial recommendation of Profes-or Rivers of that College. The English department is conducted by PROF. ELLISON CAPERS, son of the late Bishop Ca- # pers, and a graduate of, aud lately an Instructor f in the State Military Academy. / The Institute has opened with some forty stu- / dents, to which number daily accessions are being made. The students' rooms are provided with new furniture; and the Mount Zion Society, at their recent meeting, have taken steps to have the College building put in complete repair.
