Married? On Thirrsday, the 24th ultimo, at
the residence of the father of the bride, by James
differ vs. Esq., Mr. JAMES GARVIN" and Miss
ELIZABETH C. MISKELLV, all of this District.
On the same day, at the same place, hy James
Jeffens, Esq., Mr. JOHN W. MISKECLY and
Miss ADELINE WOOD, all of this District.
?bituarj.
Died, at bis residence in this village, on Tuesday,
the 22ud inst., Col. WILLIAM WRIGHT, in
the 59th year of his age.
The deceased was born in York District about
13 miles north-west of the Court Hou?e, but his
father and family removing to the village in his
early infancy, he afterward" lived and died a citizen
of Yorkville. Receiving a fair English education,
and placed for a few years as clerk in a store
under the control of an efficient and experienced
merchant, the subject of this notice engaged,
early in manhood, on his own account in the avocation
in which he had been trained and well prepared.
By assiduous attention to business?great
prudence in its management?and exact order in
all he did, the deceased readily realized a comfortable
fortune. Retiring from trade, he vested the
pecuniary accumulations of his life in good Bunk
and other dividend paying stocks; but trained to
active employment?averse to idleness and yielding
to the impulse of a noble philanthropy, he
readily and zealously devoted all the energies of
his natnre?all the powers of an indefatigable
disposition to the promotion and completion of the
Rail Road project, which has since proved 60 promotive
of the best interests, of the District and
surrounding country, acting as one of the commissioners
to procure subscriptions to the stock
of, the Kings Mountain Rail Road, the exertions
of the deceased were unwearied and eminently
successful. The patriotism and liberality of the.
village and district responded to his appeals?the
requisite amount of stock was obtained?and, in
the organization of the Company which followed,
Col. Weight was prevailed upon to accept the
Presidency. He was accordingly elected without
opposition, and continued to discharge the duties
nf the situation, after repeated elections contrary
to his wishes, until the 10th of September of last
year. How ho executed the trust confided to him,
it is needless to detail. His services are known
and appreciated, and lapse of time will only add
to the meed of commendation, which has been awarded
him in the minds of the stockholders.
The deceased endured a protracted illness, and
suffered much acute paiu. Whilst it pleased the
Almighty to lay his chastening hand upon him, it
is confidently believed that the dispensation was
sanctified to the sufferer. Being sensible for
many weeks, tb&t bis early dissolution was approaching,
the mind of the deceased readily
turned for consolation to the only support of the
immortal Being, and soon became stayed and fixed
in christian resignation and a good hope
through grace. Long a member of Christs* visible
Church, he had been taught of the Spirit to
be teachable not only by the blood, but by the
Providence of God. Whilst death lost his terrors
to the soul of the deceased, it was also a source of
comfort to friends to observe for hours previous to I
his dissolution, that his physical sufferings seemed J
to have ceased; and his life was calmly breathed
away as in the enjoyment of a sweet sleep.
Our village has lost a good citizen?society, a
valuable member?the Church, an efficient and
bountiful supporter?many friends, a friend, the
like of whom will never be replaced to them?
and a family, all they chiefly cared for on earth.
His worth and munificence in many of the particulars
indicated will never be knowu to the world.
Bat he is gone; and submissiou is our duty.
Near Crowder's Creek, on the 12th ultimo, Mr.
ELLIS HOWEL. aged 50 years.

this question now, with perfect nssunMlce, not only
from our own personal knowledge; but from the
unqualified testimony of litenkfy gentlemen of

it a superior book to her first, and assure
