Aug 21 34 2t "to WvalTdsT NO SUCH DISEASE AS "GENERAL DISEASE." How often have been repeated to interrogations such answers as "Why! sir, (or madam,) you are laboring under general debility" ?or, "general disease seems to pervade your entire system"?or, "there is a general complication of disorders afflicting you"?or, "disease is so general throughout your system, a thorough course of mediciual treatment must be adopted for its removal," &c., &c. Such answers as these to the poor trembling patient, at once convey the idea that every, or nearly every part of the body has become the scat of extensive organic disease, and for the removal of which a diversified and long course of treatment must be eutered upon for their removal, and the poor patient sinks almost with despondency at the very idea that he is so much "out of fix," and that so much nndsuch a variety , of drugs must be taken ere health will be re- I stored. To all such invalids I would say, be not dis- j mayed or discouraged, for rest assured there is no j such thing as "general disease"?there is no such ' . state of system as "general dihility," in the com- ! mon acceptation of the term, for however much j entire system may seem to be diseased, yet upon ( close examination, scrutiny and attention to causes of this apparent general disorder it will be found j that all these morbid symptoms have for their j j source and origin some one or more diseased points, ! ^ from which, through that chief characteristic of .j the living body?sympathy?all other morbid ' 1 symptoms arise. ^ It is very true, that one, or more, or even all the organs of the body, may seem to he diseased, but . rest assured that ail this diseased action originates, ( invariably, from one or more diseased points?to |' illustrate : are you troubled with a cough, pain !5 in the side, rapid breathing, easily "out of breath" j 1 upon the slightest exertion ? Are you troubled with sleeplessness, starting in sleep?your thoughts ; being rendered more vivid and painful 1>)' the vigils; impaired volition, headache, flushed face, pain in the temples and face, humming in the ears, twitching of the eyelids, occasional slight obscuration of vision? Do you experience a "fluttering" of the heart, or palpitation by (juickened exertion, I pain iu the chest, or darting pains over the region of the heart, flying pains, stitches and cramps in the ribs, between the shouluer blades, about the hips and in the fingers, which give you notions of ; rheumatism ? Have you a dry tongue, ov tongue clean, red, swollen and deeply spiit in nil direc- ' tions, gums rccediug from the teeth, breath hot ' but not fa1 till, thirst, loss of appetite, or morbid craving for food, constipation of the bowels, or j irregular as to time and quantity, nausea and vow- \ itiiig ? Is your mind irritable, with tits of depres- , r sion of several hours' duration, an impossibility ; t to apply the mind, imagining that this person or ' n that person has done you some wrong, or has a ; wish to do so ? Are the feet almost constantly cold, and the skiu dry, harsh, sometimes with an unnatural heat and sometimes highly sensitive to j cold t Is there a diminution of secretion from : 1 the kidneys, or the secretion sometimes of one j color and sometimes of another, pain over the re- | ' giou of the kidneys and small of the back, darting j 0 pains running down the thighs, cramps iu the j v calves of the legs and feet ? Have you pain in j ^ the right side, right shoulder, or Tic Doloreux of j 0 the face, with a bilious, sallow complexion, yellow- < c dcss of the eyeballs 1 If so, (and there are tlious- I ? ands of patients who can subscribe to every one or a greater portion of the above symptoms,) all I this multiform diseased action, may, and in nine j hundred und ninety-nine cases in a thousand do de- " pend ou a small point of inflawirtntion in the dlgestive organs, and, perhaps no larger than a five J cent piece. From this small point of iuflamma- 11 tion, small as it is, all the morbific symptoms above c mentioned, arise, and the removing of this cause, this small point of inflammation, the curing of " this one small point of diseased action in the di- 1 gestivc organs, the whole array of multiplied r symptoms that yon have looked upon as a "gen- I oral disease," and which you have oftentimes, no 'i doubt, imagined would sooner or later close your earthly coreer, will at once disappear. Should this meet the eye of any invalid whose feelings and symptoms arc described above, who ^ have any confidence in the doctrine as regards causes as set forth, tho attention of all such arc . respectfully solicited to "BLISS' DYSPEPTIC J REMEDY''?a remedy, when used closely accord- n ing to directions, will not fall in restoring diseased action of the Stomach, as described above, and of removing every vestige of disease, and every symptom^ described above. Xo long course of treatment with this Remedy is required to nscer- i tain its true merits, for it will begin to relieve the j majority of causes in a very few days. There may r ue VAJJVI.VUK-V VII 10 VV....UVUVV 5 mcnt of relief for perhaps a week or ten days, and a there may be others where no appreciable altera- t tiou for the better can be discovered under two or j three weeks, but if taken in good faith and persevered in, it will not fail to relieve any case, I care not how stubborn it may have been. Many physicians will probably read this paragraph with a smile of incredulity, (and I cannot blame them, in view of the thousand and one nostrums now he- | fore the people, all of which arc put forth as "sovereign remedies")?hut that this Remedy will cure any case of Dyspepsia, I am positive ; and if there is any physician who does not choose to give it a fair test in his practice, his patient only will be the loser. I would be glad to have all physi- f cians test it, and would they do so in good faith they would find that i do not overrate the virtue c of the preparation. 1 am positive in my belief, n for I have used this same prepa.ation for years in m my practice, and am prescribing it daily in my ( office practice, and know its virtues, and most un- a hesitatingly say that there is no case of Dyspepsia i but that I can cure, and use nothing but this preparation. "tv - * iat* GOTTON SAW GINS, Straight Bibs, vs. Crooked, Uniformity of * RoU, &o, - > ALTHOUGH the advantage of the straight rib in the COTTON GIN has been discovered for more than twenty years, yet it baa not been sufficiently known or appreciated by the planter. The advantage consists simply in thia: that the ribs, when worn, can be moved down to where they are not worn, which answers the pxtrppse of a new sett of ribs. Three moves can be> made, which gives four wearing?, which is equal to four setts of ribs. So that a purchaser having in view prospective expense, would lose the price of three setts of xibs if the ribs of his gin were not moveable. Any planter with common intelligence can move the straight ribs himself, and thus obtain all the benefit of a new sett of ribs. The greatest uniformity can be obtained in the . roll by giving the ribs the proper angle, tho.effect of which is, to throw tho weight of the Toll more upon the saws than upon the seed board,' and by adjusting the seed-board so as to prevent the seed when once detached from re-uniting with the roll: this improvement has been made bythe subscriber within a few months. With regard to fast picking gins, the greatest ' * amount of'liut is obtained in two ways. First, by having long teeth lying as nearly parallel to the . ^ verge of the saw as possible, so that the teeth en- ^ fy tcring the ribs so much point foremost they are ^ obliged to carry all the cotton through that they get hold of. A fifty saw gin with these. $ort of teeth on a nine inch saw-has gined eight File's per day. Tho second plan is, to form the breastso that the teeth meets the ribs bonriy atxigbt ahgles, and thus packs the cotton into the teeth ,of the saws. This plan is very straining on theeaws, pttnd causes a much heavier draughts ' WBetber the cotton is iujured by an orcrwraugbt speed, the planters must judge for themselves. Thp subscri- ; bcr will furnish to the planters of this and adjoin- >-jj ing Districts Cotton Gins equal ip durable yalup to any in the country. Delivered at Chaster, York, or Charlotte, or any landing on thb road for $2 | per saw. The brushes of my gins are covered with tin-; which adds much to their strength and durability. .
