Dif.u?In Union District, on the 30th ultimo, 1
after an illness of ten days, Mrs. M. II. PARKER, j
aged 43 years and one month. i
In this mournful event we have another proof
that "God's ways are not as our ways;" for it
would seem to us that the deceased could scarcely (
be spared by the little Church in which she was a j
shining light?or by a community where the sick j
and the distressed ever found her a sympathising
friend and a ready assistant?or by a fond hus- (
band, to whom she was emphatically a "helpmeet"?or,
especially, by a family of nine chil- (
dren, the most of whom are of tender years, (one
an infant of 10 months) to whom she was an indulgent,
but conscientious Christian mother. But j p
I let u? not call in question the wisdom, the justice,
a or the goodness of the All-wise Disposer of events I j
m ?"The Judge of all the earth will do rightand i
eternal truth declares that "all things shall work
together for good to them that love Clod."
The subject of this notice had, in early life,
sought and found the pearl of groat price?had t
obtained "a good hope through grace," and had c
united herself with the Independent Presbyterian t
Church, of which she continued to be a worth yand
much esteemed member until her death. In her ^
relation to the church she was warm and ardent j
in her affection, and uncompromising in defence j
of what she believed to be truth. In her inter- j
course with the community she was cheerful and j
social, and was characterized by kindness to the
afflicted and the needy, and by unwavering firm- j .
ness in pursuing a course which she deemed right I i
?and in her connection with her own family, she | {
was truly the "christian wife," and the "godly j
mother."
Iler loss will be seriously felt iu many circles, j
but our loss is her great gain: for haying loved j
and served her Redeemer on earth, she has gone ! (
to enjoy his presence and sing his praises in Heaven, j f
In her last illness, her sufferings were severe, but I (
she was patient and uncomplaining. She was not t
afraid to die; for she had been prepared, by Divine r
grace, to exchange a sinning and sorrowing existence
here, for a holy and happy abode in the
Kingdom of Heaven. She met her summons calm- I,
ly and cheerfully; and her death was without a ' (
struggle?"gentle as the Summer's eve.'' "Tiles- j
, sed are the dead who die in the Lord." C.
