this extraordinary trial, and from
recent estimates it appears that the
Government has already expended
half a million pounds in prosecuting
the claimaut for perjury. Up to thij
time Tihbborne has cost, in judicial
salaries alone, ?25,000. The first
trial, in which the claimant waE
plaintiff, occupied one . year, and
hence the Chief Justice's salary,
X7,000, was expended on 6ho claimant,
The present trial has so far lasted
twelve -months. Ihence an expense
or .18,000 ; X8,000 'as salary ol
Chief 'Justice, and ?5,000 each for
the puisne judges. The most impor.
tant part of the expense is forunid in
