We regret to learn thawt on Friday
night, the 18th instant, Mr. J. K.
Rabb's gill house, containing twelve
bales cotton, was destroyed by fire.

little Enam, youngest child of Mrs.
Jane M. and the late Col. J. N.
Shedd. The afflicted widow has the

Rules fot Weighing Hogs.
The following rules for wieighing
hogs is taken from a Kentucky paper,
and if correetly stated, we think they
will be of great value to some of our
readers :
"Thu Kentucky rule for esiniating
the not n1eight of' hogs is sail to bC,
for the first 100 lbs., deduct 25 for
gioss , for ecoond 100 lbs., deduct
I I ' for the third IOU lbs., deduct
6[; all ov6r the third hundred is net.
The net weight of a hog weighinag 100
lbs. is 75 lbs., a hog of 150 gross Iill
net 13', of 250 gross; 2CS3 net, and a
hog the gross weight of which is 300
11-s., will net 256.1 lbs. From the
gross Oeight of a hog thaf go6s over
300, 48.1 pounds oniy is deducted,
even should the weight be 400P."
