To PAAIaetm and GulardhaaN. We call the special attention of our readers this morning, to tho card -headed "To Parents and Guar dians." It speaks for itself. New A r Notice to Trespassers-R. G. Cam. eron. Notice to Tax Payers-James S. Stewart, County Auditor. Meeting of Couity Comtuissidhers -W. B. Peake, Clerk. Mr. F. lMder wishing to dispose of his old stock to miko room for a now supply is ollring his goods at and be. low New York cost for cash. See card iu another column. New Cot utos1. Two baics of new cotton were sold iii this market on Thursday lust, onc bale by Mr. T. W. Rawls and the other by Mr. John McCully, Sr., it was classed at LJw Middling, and purchashed by 1I. L. Illiott & Co.. at 17.1 cents. SClling Out. B..F. Davidson & Co., are sellitIg out their entire stock of Dry Goods and Notions. Those wishing bar gains will do well to call early. Fire. * An alarm of fire was sounded about 10 o'clock on Monday night last, which was found to procced from a disreputable "bull" on "Gul ly" street. It was the work an in. cendiary. The fire was extinguished bef6re any damage w" done. St. Luke's (Episcopal) Church, Charleston. was robbed some time since. Ghaileston experenced a severe storni on last Friday. The water covered the streets several inches. The CheA.tr Reporter chronicles the death of Mr. Jonas Rader. Since last report fe havu had more rain and gloomy weather. The citizens of Chaileston are us iag carbolic acid gas as a disinfeo tant. Charleston papers report only 18 deaths for the week ending 10th inst., against 34 for the same pariod last year. Twelve steamers coiposing the fire department of Charleston) have been ordered out by the authoi-ities for the purpose of draining the cellars. A disturbance ocourred in Sumter on Monday nvening, 21st instabt, be tween a pat-ty of negroes, during which three of the latter were wounded. One of the soldiors received a pistol shot wound in the leg. The matter is to undergo investigaition. We had a splendId rain yesterday, too late howevor, to do much good. The cotton and corn crops arm almost lost. T1he Charlestosn Courier records the death of Mrs. Mary Draton, a native of that city, at the~ advanced ago of 102 yearsj two months and five days. Much siekness is reported in Char ton. b..- By reference to another column it will be seen that Mr. Gooding will shortly receive a fine lot of stock from Kentucky. He tells us that among the lot are some extra fine harness horses, which will add materially to thoso handsome "turn-outs" manu famctired at his shops near his stable. Our readers will do well to call on Mr. Gooding. Arrest or Deserters. Fr1ank von Kretsehmann, Angelbort Stambler and George H~odder, desert era from the garrison at this place, were arrested in Chmrleston last Sa. turday by officer Truall and Sergeant llutler. The two former were on board the steamer James Adger, botmnd for Newt York, and the latter on a Baltimoi'e steamer, at the time of their arrest. They are now in prison at Columbia, whore they will be tried by court martial for deser tion. Valusabale Lots 101' sale. It will be observed by an advertise mnent in to-daya NF.WS, that Mr. S. C. Mlackoroll of Blackstoek, about six,~ teen miles from Winni bro, offors fot sale, six or more line lots, situate and fronting the Charlotte, Columbia andl Augusta Rail Road. A splendid op portunity is offered to thioso wishing to invest in something real, as we un derstand the citizens of that section are exerting themselves in raising funds for building a depot at Black stock, and have suceseded in raising quite a large sum for the purpose. The depot will undoubtedly add ma terially to the value of the lots. See card for particulars. Housekeepers take Notice. The wise housekeeper should see to it that all thme bedesshould be aired jun. mediately after being oocupied. The I impurities whioh oinnate from th< human body from ifeli0110 put-i'a. tion, are mado up of minute atoms, which, if allowed to remain long, anr absorbed by the bed, and will then, (c a greater or less extent, vitiate the air for a conSiderable time Afterward, 1,t. the o'enpant throw.he bed open on rising, andl as soon as is convenient opti the windows and V'entilato the slceping-room. It will keep for twelve months, and when dry may be soften. ed with water. So say an excliange. Cure I'or Asthma. The following recipe for Asthma was sent to the Georgetown Times by a Mr. Morgau, an old and highly us teemed cilizen of that Couhty : I1alf-ounce Iodide Pota nium and half-pint of water; nix and take a tablespoonful three times a day ; af. ter two weekcs reduce the quantity in a month stop Using, unless synip toms return, then take a dose. I was badly afflidted for yeaf!, and of all the cures tried, none gave but a fo W houis relief;{and fi'ow the first dose, I nev er had it since. I would earnestly recommend all newspapcra to publish this, 's i: will be the greatest benefit they can. confer on tho public, and which I one but, the aflicted can aP preciate. I trust, all readers will cuil this out, and pastO it in a good famiiiily bouk. I will send hundreds of the-3e printed caris over the State to the newspapers. I am an old mnau, and my onily object is to benefit the illhe ted. P. S.-I was given this cure sever al tines, but on y one-third the qiuan tity, and received no benefit A. MORGAN. GORGEumorowN, S. C., Jt'ly, 1871. Itv. W. 1. Dufllose. Our readers will with pleasure pe ruie the following extract taken from the Abbeville Press and Banner of a recent date, in regard to the appoint, ient of our young, and much esteem. ed friend,--lev. W. P. DuBose: "This distinguished young minister of the Episcopal 01 urch, and the es teemed Rector of Trinity Church, Abbeville, has been elected by a unanimous vote to the Professcrship of Moral and Intellectual Philosophy and the nidences of Christianit.y in the University of the South, and also Chaplain of the same. On Sunday last, lie announbed, in a very fecliung discourie3 the reasono which controll ed his decision in accepting the call, and thus sevefing the pastoral rela tion with his conigregation. The Uni ver-ity was the cherished Institution of the Chu1cb, and h said that Ihe could not refuse his aid ill enabling it to accomnplish its chosen work. This corgregation will give up its pastor with feellngsm of v'ery painful regret Few ministers have ever been more admire~d or more boloved ; for few unlites ill their chatraeter such a r'are assemblage of tinalities which alike appeal to love and admiration. Zeal ous anti uhtiring in ovcrjr good word and wtlrk, the consienutious minister, the genial coinpanion; the symnpathis ing friend, ho leaves a tactuum hcel which, perhaps, we can) never suipply.' Ateautfti2 From an obituary notice irebently published iii the Charleston Courier, we extract the following beautiful senten ces "When Eieath strikes dlown the in no~ient and young, for every fragile form from whuich lie lets the panting spirit free'; a hundred virtues rise, in shapos of mercy5 charity and love to walk the world, anid bless it. Of every tear that sorrowing mortals shed on green graves, sotnd good is. born, seone gentler nature cotnes. In the Destroyer's steps there spring up bright creations that defy his power, and his dark path becomes a way of light to Heaven." The Firemen's Journal, which ongbt to be good authority on such matters; says: "A wvash comnposed of lime, salt and fine sand, or wood- nahes, put 'n in the ordinary way of whitewash, is said to render the roof fifty-fold more safe against taking tire from falling cin ders or otherwise in ease of fire in the vicinity. T[ho head ings acci dently got changed, and when the pa per appeared, the oditor was horrified to see the obituary notice headed "A Good Joke,' while the futiby knuedote was prefixed with the caption "A Sad Annoncemdnti lleavilig the Lead.
