Rov. Paul Bagley, who has interested
hiniself in procuring a pardon for Jeff. Da
vis, has givenia account of his efforts aind
rebuffs in the Chicago Tribuae. Ho says
that with flie knowledge that Governor
Vatno, of North Carolina, and the signature
of Sentor Sunieur and otier ilutiential
public mon to his application for pardon, on
the ground lint he would consent to advo
onto negro suffrage at the south, he endeav.
ored to induce Jeff. Davis to consent to the
sante condition, and thereby securo his pitr
don. This Davis declined to do. Subse
quently Mr. Bagley waited upon (lie fallen
