OUTRAGE UPON A COLORED MAN IN
Rocn EsTrni.--The Rochester I!press,
of a late date, has the following :
"Nathan Sprague, a colored muan,
and son-in-law to Fiederiok Doughss,
lately purchased a coach and horses,
with a view of running it as a public
conveyance, having procured his li
cense. He took his stand at tho regu
lar place, Ion the East side, near
the Osborn House, notwitlistandinct
threats from certain quarters that no
'd-d nigger'should run as a backman
in Rochester. On Monday eveningof
last wek-the s.mno day Sprgno
comtnenced business, and while hin
back was turned a moment-his coach
was badly cut tip and disfigured, so as
to render it unfit for use until repairs
wero made, which were quite expen

parts were nearly destroyed. Sprague

Bony FouNi.-It was stated in the
Phoenix, several days ago, that Mr.
Wi. Langa, who resided near Grove
Station, in Greonville District, had dis.
a ppeared, and that unsuccesfid attempts
had been made by his friends to obtain
tidings of him. Wo regret to state that
on Saturday last-just one week after
his departure- the body of the unfor.
Ltunate man was fotnd in Saluda River,
about a milo below his house. From
the appearance of the body, it is feared
that the deceased met with foul play.
An inquest was held and a vetdict of'
deat, by drowning rendered ; but., as
some of his friends nre not, satisfied, a
post morteo examination will be made of
the body.
CnoP STATISTICS WArTrTm.-As
there were a great many varieties of
wheat sown in this District last Fall, it
has been suggested to us that a benefit
to the farming community might be
obtained by a comnparison of the crops
made from each kind of seed. Such a
comparieon, published, would enable
farmer3 to decidoe upon the quality of
diff'eront varieties, and wotuld also t howv
whlich variety is best adapted to any
particular soil. We are willing to give
our assistanci the project, and invite
from those who would like to see the
matter tosted, tho following statistics:
1st. Kind of seed sowvn.
2d. Quantit.y sown to the acre.
3d. Chairacter of soil used,
4th. Name of lorhilizer used, if any.
5th. Qtuantty of fertilizer to the
acre.
6th. Number of' bushels gathered to
the acre.
If such statistics are handed us soon
after harvest, in suflcient numbers to
justify it, we will endeavor to get up a
tabular statement, comprisinig the aver
age yield of eachi variety.
