w .. i /THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1919. WILL IT PAY? In no point are the sellers, and the buyers farther apart than in the wis dom of advertising in the coyniy newspapers. The man with some thing to sell, frankly regards adver tising as a waste of good money. The opposite is more largely true. The average reader of the county v paper really wants to read the advertise ments. Any issue of the county pa- jper will prove this fact. It contains foreign advertisements of patent medicines’, auto tires, automobiles, fertilizers, and a host of other things. These concerns are too good business men to continue losing money. It pays them to advertise largely. Why wouldn’t it pay the local business man? - 4 The past few years have seen ^ a greater tendency to shift the trade from the cities to the country towns. The average country buyer con sciously or unconsciously keeps a want list of what must be purchased for that home or farm. The adver tiser who runs a well worded adver tisement of what he has to sell keeps bis store before that prospective buy er as the logical place to buy his goods. When he comes to town he or she will naturally turn to the store whose advertisement he had been reading week after week. This is a part of human nature. Another reason why advertising pays is that if advertising is wisely done it can sell anything under the sun. This doesn’t mean expensive advertising, but something that will always place before the people what you have to sell. Our business life has been so stable as to get along with a minimum of advertising. The boll weevil will mean greater comi*- tition in business than ever before. The man who advertises what he has to sell whether he be banker, mer chant, farmer or mechanic will win over his competitor who doesn’t ad vertise. A Correction. Mistakes will occur anywhere and everywhere, but we think that we have more in newspaper offices than elsewhere. In an obituary last week of Mrs. W. M. Bailey by some over sight in the make-up of the paper we neglected to state that “Mrs. Bai ley was before her marriage Miss Laura J. Bland, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Bland." In giving the names of the surviving children a failure to give the name of “Mrs. W. S. Thames of Ellenton" was also made. We are glad to make this correction. MASTER’S SALE.
