Greenville, May 3.—Officers here and throughout the sur rounding territory are searching today, unsuccessfully so far, for four yegg men "who early this ■morning blew_open the safe in the office of Lipscomb Russell Company, wholesale grocers of this city, and after securing money, liberty bonds and checks, worykover $2,000, made a hold attempt at a get away, but were forced to drop the loot after they were tired on.by a policeman who arrived on the scene as they were ahc4it to make good their escape. The officer engaged in a running pistol duel with one of the gang and believes he hit him,.as the money box was dropped. . A11 the stelen valuables were rt covered.
