cleaning there should not be overlooked
the neglected orchards, rubbish around
the farm buildings and especially
around the gins and seed houses. Th’S
work of cleaning up during the winter
is so important tjiat no matter what
other farm practice the farmer may
apply the results are minimized to the
extent to which he neglects the dis-
tructioii of winter hotel-. Wi^h the
advent of the boll weevil, the effect of
injurious farm crop insects now present
will become much more noticeable
owing to the great, attention;, paid to
other crops,. Jt is an easy matter, at
this time to go to any Cum stalk field
and pull up stubbies, roots and all and
split them, with a pocket knife. In
most of the stubbles^ thfcre will be
found one or more white worms or
grubs, which are the young of. the Corn
stalk borer, which causes an annual
eligible for re-ell ction for the nekf five
years.

the approach-of the boll weevil there is
lio phsRe of farm minagement of great-,

‘boll weevils, ia seeking winter quarters
in the fall, select such places r that fur
nish it the necessary protection against
winter weather. We haye been in tjie
habit- of speaking of insect winter
hotels. By this we meah of course,
the places where the weevils stay in
winter, or in other words, where they
hibernate. A strong example of the

to the register's desk, which was pre
