birds?' It is a question which has be

penn land and forest culturisls, since in
ninny countries vast areas of crops and
forests have been ruined by the devas
tations caused by clouds of insects, such
as chafers and moths, by caterpillars,
mice and tho hundreds of other species
of vermin which multiply to ancnor

and Forest Cull urists assembled at V-icn

ernment to secure the protection of
birds, which are acknowledged as useful
to land and forest culture; by interna
\ticnal.treaties with other slates, under
consideration of the following points as
bases :?
' 1J The capture and killing of insect
'devouring birds are unconditionally for
bicVlen.
2. It is desirable that a special list
of :tlie n'o'mes of such birds as should be
protected be published by an iutcrnatio?
nl ccinmission, composed of men aequain
ted with the. subject.
3. The capture of '.birds which arc
for the most* part gvuiu eaters shall he
permitted from the 1st of March to the
35th of September.
4. The capture of birds hy means of
slings nod snares, of whatever kind, is.
totally forbidden.
5. The taking of eggs and young, as
well as the destruction oenfests of all
birds, with the exception of the iriju

till soft. Then stow in tho soup a pound
and a half of beef and a slice of bacon,
with a few cloves and a little inaoa. List
it stew for two hours, run it through a
eolendar, pepper aud salt to taste, atid
add a lump of sugar'. Serve with bread
fried and cut into dice, on a Bqparato
dish.

Roll a quarter of a pound of butter in
to a pound of flour; then add a table

egg. Mix it with a little warm milk
poured into the middle of the flour; stir
all well together, and set it by tho fire
to rise; then make it into light dough,
and again sot by the lire. Make up the
rolls, lay- thorn on a tin, nnd set theiu
in irontjpf tjedlfo before you put thorn
into the oven, and brush them over
with egg.
Fricasseed Turkey.?Cut up a
small youug turkey, rinse it in cold w?.
tcr put it into a slew pan and sot it'
over a gentle firo; tako off tho scum as
it rises, and add a largo teaspoonful
of salt when it is tender and white, and
the same of pepper. Work n tablespoon
iul of flour with a quarter of ri pound
of sweet'DUt'tcr, and stir it with the
fricassee by tho spooul^l/ Djp a bunch
of parsley in hot water, chop it, small
and put in the stew pan, cover and let
simmer gently Tor. fit'tcun minutes; then
servo with boiled rico or mashed pota
toes for breakfast or dinner.
