Judgo Graham, yesterday morning, for
an order to show cause why the
Treasurer should not receive, in
payment of taxes, bills of the Bank of
tho State Bwhich had been tenderod for
that purpose. His Honor thereupon

rale of all lands advertised for sulo for
taxes in Orangcburg county, for which
taxes bills of the Bank of the State

term of the Court was the case of the
state vb Russell Wilson for the murder
of Jeffrey Hcrsey, near Lewisrille on
the '9th of Jonunry-Inci. T>ho caso was
set for Thursday last, and on that morn- |
ing a vast crowd surrounded the court
House, and filled every available space
in the houjo. A largo number oi' people
were at the Jail to ?ce the prisoner
come out. About 200 persons followod
him to the court House^
When the case was oallcd Mr. Knowl
ton ot counsel foe defence, moved for a
?continuance, and stated that he proposed
to ask for a change of venue. Mr.
Solicitor Buttz and Malcolm I. Drown
ing Esq., opposed the motion. The
argument was lengthy and able on both
sides. Tho Judge at last granted the
motion and the case was marked
continued.
The Solicitor and Mr. Browning
represented the State and Mr. Knowlton
and Messrs Izlar & Dibble the defence.
